MONROE—The Leo Lions gave the #1-ranked Adams Central Jets a rude awakening at the Hangar on Thursday night stunning the home team 34-32 in an ACAC mat dual.
As the top-ranked team in the small school division entering their season opener, AC looked the part after a quick pin to start from senior Ben Pfister at 195.
AC's 6-0 lead would be their last, however.
BERNE — South Adams freshman Gabe Schwartz responded to the pressure of his first varsity wrestling match, delivering the sudden fall at 170 pounds that sealed a 42-31 Starfires' victory over Garrett Thursday night in the season opener at the Stardome.
"Schwartz comes up with a huge win as a freshmen and wins a meet for us. He was thrown right in it and got it done," praised South Adams coach Eric Myers after the ACAC meet.
