COACH’S COMMENTS:

Stars, Braves to renew mat rivalry

    "I'm excited about it and I think our guys are excited, but we need to do much better than we did at Adams Central," stated South Adams' seventh-year wrestling coach Eric Myers on the match set for the Stardome tonight versus No. 17 Bellmont.

Lifelong friends reunite for Packers game

    Lifelong South Adams Starfire friends recently reunited in Green Bay and attended the Green Bay Packers - Oakland Raiders football game. Scott Habegger, a Wisconsin resident, got the idea for the reunion after hearing TV announcers say that all football fans, at least once in their life, should  see a game at historic Lambeau Field.
    "I've had the opportunity to see several Packers games at Lambeau, and I thought my high school buddies would enjoy seeing a game there as well," said Habegger.

Stars snap four-game skid, handle Parkway with ease

    BERNE—The Starfire boys hosted buckeye state foe, Parkway, on Tuesday night and came away with a solid 57-42 victory over the Panthers to improve their record to 3-4 on the season.
    After starting the season 2-0, the South Adams Starfires had lost their last four games including ugly losses to Jay County and Bluffton before finding their stride in a close loss at home to Heritage last week. Against Parkway, the Stars shot the ball very well at 49% for the game and 70% from the free throw line.

Squaws blast Lady Jets at Teepee, 59-34

    The Lady Jets came to town to visit county-rival Bellmont in a battle at the Teepee and the Squaws defended their home turf well coming away with an impressive 59-34 victory against Adams Central improving winning their second straight game in a row after losing their first ten.

December 19th

Jets make another late surge, beat Lakewood Park Panthers, 68-53

    AUBURN—The Jets played their second game in as many days on Saturday after defeating the Woodlan Warriors handily the night before as they travelled to Auburn to take on the Lakewood Park Christian Panthers winning, 68-53.
    There was a sense of "déjà vu" for AC as the game was very similar to the Woodlan game the night before in that the Jets played even with their competition in the first half, then had a strong third quarter and coasted in the fourth for the victory.

Adams, Melcher earn key wins as Braves zap Chargers

    Keyed by solid wins from seniors Blake Adams at 126 and Dewey Melcher at 152 pounds, and back-to-back falls from Jon Poling at 113 and Bob Keuneke at 120, Bellmont kept its NHC train roaring with a convincing 43-14 win over Carroll at the Teepee Thursday night.
    The win, which clinched at least a tie for the NHC regular-season crown, puts the Braves at 6-0 in the conference with only Homestead left. Bellmont is now 14-2 overall while Carroll slipped to 7-3 and 3-3 in the league.

Jets dismantle the field at Garrett ACAC quad

    GARRETT—The Jets took on half the ACAC field in the Garrett-hosted conference quad match and came away with three decisive victories in each match.
    The three matches had almost identical outcomes with AC winning first over Woodlan, 61-9, then 63-12 over Southern Wells, and finally crushing the home team Railroaders, 62-10 to cap off the perfect night despite several  Jets suffering from flu-like symptoms.

ACAC basketball bracket released

    Drawings for the 89th annual boys and 38th annual girls ACAC basketball tournament were revealed Thursday afternoon in a meeting of conference coaches and athletic directors held at the Back 40 Restaurant in Decatur.
    ACAC president Steve Rhoades, athletic director at Garrett, noted the ACAC boy’s event is the longest running conference tournament in the state of Indiana and thanked the numerous corporate sponsors including the orthopaedic group ONE in Fort Wayne for their generous assistance in putting the tournament on.

Railroaders’ run in third seals victory

December 15, 2011

    Three quick pops in succession from behind the arc by the Garrett Railroaders spelled defeat for the Bellmont boys basketball team Wednesday night at the Teepee as the Braves fell by a final 62-58 count.
