WAPAKONETA, O. — The Decatur Thunderbirds brought the big bats this past weekend to the Moon City Classic Baseball Tournament, taking the 16-team tourney with a perfect 6-0 record.
The Decatur Baseball Association team slugged out 98 hits to the 16 of the opposition and won by the run rule in five of the six games. The T-Birds had only 19 innings of at-bats in the six games. The only close game was a 10-7 win over Anna (Ohio) Rockets in the third game on Saturday. The Birds lashed out 12 hits to win that game.
The Decatur Football League will conduct registration for its 17th season on two dates: Saturday,July 30, 7 to 11 a.m., and on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 5-7 p.m. near the entrance of the Bellmont baseball field.
Physical exams, which are required for competitors, will be held on Saturday, July 30 only, from 8-10 a.m. and will cost $10.
