Though a scrappy Bellmont squad fought to leads late in both the first and third games against No. 1 Yorktown Tuesday, the visitors prevailed in the 3A Volleyball Regional with a 3-0 sweep, knocking out the defending state champion Squaws 25-21, 25-11 and 26-24.
"You have to give credit to them, they came into a hostile environment they played as they were supposed to. That's why they're No. 1," stated Bellmont coach Craig Krull.
The Starfires of South Adams look to advance to the sectional finals for the first time since 2006 on Friday as they take on the Union City Indians on their home turf.
The records are the same; 9-1. The rankings are not. According to the coaches poll, South Adams is the fourth best team in 1A football this week, while Union City is perched just outside of the top ten. Both are coming off of great wins (SA over Monroe Central 46-0, Union City over Wes-Del 42-20).
