Jets sweep Pats in ACAC tourney

    MONROEVILLE — Adams Central survived a pair of comeback rallies from Heritage Tuesday night and moved on to Thursday night's semi-final round of the ACAC volleyball tournament with a 25-22, 25-18 victory over the Patriots.
    All eight conference teams were in action Tuesday at Heritage with ACAC leader Woodlan whipping Southern Wells 25-14, 25-3, Leo downed South Adams 25-15, 25-18, and Garrett handed Bluffton a 25-18, 24-26, 26-24 decision in the closest match of the night.

Starfire boys repeat as ACAC champs; Leo tops South Adams

    The South Adams boys took four of the top seven places and easily beat the field Tuesday to win their second straight ACAC Cross Country championship at the Adams Central course.
    In the girls race, Leo toppled two-time champ South Adams, 40-55, for the crown, though SA junior Hannah Moore won her second ACAC individual title, adding to her crown in 2008.
    Defending boys' champ Evan Liechty of South Adams finished second to teammate Eric Isch Tuesday as Isch roared in at 16:39 to the 17:08 of Liechty.

Knights take out Jets 4-1 in final

    OSSIAN — After being delayed due to rain from Saturday, the IHSAA tennis sectional finals were completed Monday with Norwell capturing a 4-1 championship win over Adams Central.
    The news was not all bad for AC, however, as the one point they gained, a three-set win by Nathan Barger at number one singles, will continue Barger's season this week as he will compete in the IHSAA individual tennis tournament. This tournament is for winners of number one singles and doubles whose teams are not advancing to the next level.

BHS frosh cop Norwell tourney

    OSSIAN — Bellmont's freshman volleyball team won four matches Saturday and took the title in the Norwell  Freshmen Invitational.
    The Squaws won their pool, then took out East Noble 25-6, 25-10, in the championship match.
    Taylor Rhymer led the way with 8 kills, 2 aces and 3 digs as Bellmont improved to 15-0 overall.

Boucher takes 8th in NHC cross country

    FORT WAYNE — Missing senior captain Kyle Lehrman, the Bellmont boys cross country team battled in the annual Northeast Hoosier Conference race Saturday on the IPFW course and finished sixth with 133 points.
    Lehrman suffered a broken leg recently obviously putting him out for the season and that forced BHS coach Randy Hisner to run a no-senior line-up with four of the five harriers being in their first-ever NHC meet and three of those are running cross country for the first time in their career.

Host Starfires cop cross country titles

    BERNE—South Adams claimed its boys' and girls high school cross-country invitational titles on Saturday, winning by wide margins.
    The Lady Starfires triumphed over second-place Southern Wells, 42 to 117, and the Starfires were victorious over Northfield, 46 to 80.

    The other team scores were Garrett 120, Northfield 124, Monroe Central 141, Adams Central 147, Carroll (at Flora) 154, Cowan 191, Centerville 193, Bluffton 202, Wabash 219, and Alexandria 266.

    BERNE—Adams Central got back on the winning track in volleyball Thursday night traveling to the Stardome to extract a 25-17, 27-25, 25-14 triumph from the South Adams Starfires in ACAC competition.

Barons can’t stop Bellmont’s attack

    Madison Schultz drilled in 13 of her 17 kill attempts while Alex Fuelling befuddled the DeKalb defense with eight serving aces along with nine kills and the result was an easy three-game sweep for the Bellmont Squaws Thursday night over the Barons.

Braves zap SA

    OSSIAN—Bellmont eliminated one Adams County team from the 44th annual IHSAA tennis sectional Thursday night and will face another one in tonight's semi-finals.
    The Braves blanked South Adams 5-0 for the right to advance to the semi-final round against Adams Central. Also on the agenda tonight for the Norwell tennis sectional will be Huntington North, a 3-2 victor over Bluffton on Thursday, versus the host Knights. Both matches will begin at 4:30 p.m.

        "We've been preaching that all week, pursuit, angles, and, of course, tackling," said Bellmont football coach Rick Burkhalter on the football fundamentals that Bellmont will have to employ to stop one of the strongest runningbacks in the state, New Haven's Te'Vaughn Hurse.
    The 3-3 Braves, fresh off a disappointing loss to Carroll in a game that Bellmont dominated statistically, have a few things to clean up on defense and special teams this week.
