John A. Kintz

    John A. Kintz, 79, Decatur, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2014, at Adams Memorial Hospital. John was born in Decatur Sept. 5, 1935, to the late John and Mary (Bernard) Kintz. He married Elizabeth “Sis” Miller Oct. 18, 1958; she survives.
    A 1953 graduate of Decatur Catholic High School, John served in the U.S. Army from 1955-57. He worked at Central Soya before beginning his career in the insurance industry in 1966 at Franklin National Life. Later, John founded the Kintz Insurance Agency.

Eileen A. Billington

    Eileen A. Billington, 90, of Decatur and formerly of Bluffton, passed away at 1:05 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, at Markle Health & Rehabilitation.
    She was born in Huntington County April 30, 1924, to the late Raymond and Anna (Hause) Krieg. She married her first husband, Rev. James H. Hall, in Wabash Sept. 21, 1946; he passed away in 1991. Eileen married her second husband, Harold, in Bluffton June 7, 2001; he survives.

Bonita Heare

    Bonita “Bonnie” Heare, 80, of Decatur, formerly of Fort Wayne, passed away Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at Adams Woodcrest in Decatur. Bonnie was born in Berne, July 28, 1934, to the late Chester and Esther (Bollenbacher) Heare.
    She was a nurse in Fort Wayne, Indianapolis and in Arizona. She also was involved in various volunteer efforts.
    Bonnie is survived by one brother, John Heare of Stockton, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Wallace E. Hertel

    Wallace E. “Wally” Hertel, 91, Decatur, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, at Adams Woodcrest Retirement Community.
    Wally was born in Burlington, Wis., Friday, April 13, 1923, to the late Frederick W. and Anna (Schroeder) Hertel. He married Wanda M. Busse Dec. 13, 1947, in Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur; she survives.
    Wally served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, where he served in the Western Pacific.

Nolan Dean Koons

    Nolan Dean Koons, 76, Linn Grove, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, in Fort Wayne.
    Survivors include his wife, Annette Nona (Gerber) Koons; three sons, James (Marsha) Koons of Ossian, Jeffrey (Sondra) Koons of Berne, Jason (Lisa) Koons of Huntington; two daughters, Jeralynn (Stanley) Reiber of Minneola, Fla. and Jolene (Mark) Letanosky of Avon Lake, Ohio; brother, Norman (Liz) Koons of Decatur; and 13 grandchildren.

    John A. Kintz, 79, Decatur, died this morning. Arrangements are pending at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home.

Steven S. Sprunger

    Steven S. Sprunger, 75, Berne passed away Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, at Chalet Village.
    Survivors include three sons, Carl D. Sprunger of Pennville, Daniel J. Sprunger of Stuart, Fla. and Steven (Stephenie) Sprunger of Berne; sister, Jane Mann of Berne; and five grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home, with Pastor Larry Eads officiating. Burial will be in MRE Cemetery.
    Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mary Jane West

    Mary Jane West, 86, Decatur, passed away Saturday, Sept. 7, 2014, at Swiss Village in Berne. She was born in Corn, Okla., Dec. 28, 1927, to the late Aaron and Mary Wiens.
    She retired from General Electric.
    Among survivors are four sons, Jim Berry of Sparks, Nev., Don West, Tony West and Jeff West of Decatur; two daughters, Jean (Troy) Roberts of Fort Wayne and Bev Berry of Decatur; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchidren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Berneice A. Mailloux

    Berneice A. Mailloux, 80, Monroe, passed away Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, at her residence. She was born in Elliot, N.D., May 13, 1934, to the late Melvin and Noma (Imboden) Strahm. On Oct. 20, 1953, she married her husband of 60 years, Neil Mailloux; he survives.
    She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and its Rosary Society. She was a homemaker and worked at C.T.S. for 17 years.
