Betty J. Guenin

August 13, 2012

    Betty J. Guenin, 84, Hoagland, passed away on Friday, August 10, 2012, at Parkview Hospital.
    She was born on Sunday, September 4, 1927, in Bascobel, Wisconsin, to the late Walter N. and Minnie P. (Rogers) Hoffman.
    Betty married Lloyd E. Guenin on June 21, 1947; he passed away on April 29, 2005.
    She was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church. She retired in December of 1988 from East Allen County Schools with 15 years of service in the cafeteria.

Leroy V. Hoagland

    Leroy V. Hoagland, 90, of Monroe, passed away on Friday, August 10, 2012, at Adams County Extended Care Woodcrest.
    He was born on August 4, 1922, to the late Clarence and Beatrice (Whittenbarger) Hoagland.
    Leroy married his wife of 68 years, Ruth (Hannie) Hoagland, on December 18, 1943; she survives in Monroe.

Esther L. Patch

    Esther L. Patch, 86, of Decatur, passed away on August 10, 2012, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
    She was born in Adams County on April 17, 1926, to the late Marcus and Rebecca (Mason) Luginbill.
    She married Jesse L. Patch on January 5, 1947; he died on November 29, 2008.
    Esther was a member of First Baptist Church in Decatur, where she was in The Women’s Missionary Society. She retired in 1988 after more than 20 years of service with Central Soya (Bunge) as a Research Secretary.

Mary Stevens

    Mary Stevens, 92, of Boynton Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2012.
    She was a triplet daughter born on December 25, 1919, to Ruth Gottschalk and Daniel Moser of Berne. She lived most of her 92 years in Adams County.
    Mary married Chester L. Stevens in July, 1946; he preceded her in death in May, 1979.

Osia Marie Cox

    Osia Marie “Sissy” (Jones) Cox, 41, of Muncie, died Wednesday morning at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. 
    She was born in Hartford City on Sept. 6, 1970. She grew up in Dunkirk and had lived in Berne for several years before recently moving to Muncie. She graduated from Jay County High School in 1988 and Med Tech College in 2010.

    Mary Stevens, 92 of Boynton Beach, Florida, formerly of Decatur, died Tuesday at her residence.
    Arrangements are pending at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home.

Ralph R. Mankey

August 9, 2012

    Ralph R. Mankey, 93, of rural Decatur, died at his residence on Wednesday, August 8, 2012.
    He was born in Wells County on April 12, 1919, to the late Forrest and Nettie (Frauhiger) Mankey.
    On April 26, 1941, he married Juanita R. (Cable) Mankey; she survives in Decatur.

Martha Elaine McConnell

    Martha Elaine McConnell, 94, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at the Lutheran Life Villages.
    She was born on Saturday, June 8, 1918, to the late John and Ethel M. (Leist) Gaffer. Elaine was the first "war baby" born in Adams County during World War I.
    Elaine married Carl O. McConnell on April 10, 1937, in Columbia City; he passed away on February 17, 2008.

Margaret T. Schwartz

August 7, 2012

    Margaret T. Schwartz, 62, of rural Berne, passed away Monday, August 6, 2012, at her residence.
    She was born to Christie T. Schwartz and Susan W. Schwartz on August 26, 1949, in Adams County.
    Margaret was a member of the Old Order Amish Church and was part-owner of the Jefferson Country Store.
