LaVera Schroeder

    LaVera Schroeder, 86, of Decatur, passed away at 2:20 p.m. on Friday, September 28, 2012, in Parkview Hospital, Whitley County, located in Columbia City.
    She was born in Adams County on Sunday, February 28, 1926,  to the late Martin E. and Clara (Wietfeldt) Kiefer.
    LaVera married Gerald H. Schroeder on November 18, 1945, in Zion Lutheran Church- Friedheim, in rural Decatur; he passed away on December 7, 1995.

Vella Dawn Wasson

    Vella Dawn Wasson, 88, of Decatur, passed away Saturday, September 29, 2012, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
    She was born on May 2, 1924, in Mars Hill, Maine, to the late Fred Alden and Hazel I. (Shaw) Sylvester.
    On May 25, 1996, she married Richard L. Wasson; he survives in Decatur.

Arnold D. Emerick

    Arnold D. “Pood” Emerick, 83, of Ohio City, Ohio, died at 4:05 a.m., Thursday, September 27, 2012, at the Laurels of Shane Hill Nursing Home, in Rockford, Ohio.
    He was born on May 30, 1929, in Ohio City, to the late Doyt Philip and Maude Marilla (Brubaker).
    On April 8, 1956, he married Dixie (Clouse) Emerick; she survives at the residence.

Marjorie I. Myers

September 25, 2012

    Marjorie I. Myers, 95, of Bluffton, passed away at 12:35 p.m. Saturday, September 22, 2012, at Christian Care Retirement Community. 
    She is survived by two sons, Rolland R. “Ron” (Judy) Myers of Bluffton and Rex H. (Yvonne) Myers of Bluffton.
    Calling hours are 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at Thoma/Rich, Chaney & Lemler Funeral Home, Bluffton.
    Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Pastor Dennis Leinbach officiating.

William G. Strait Sr.

    William G. Strait Sr, 93, Portland, died Monday.
    Among survivors are his wife, Betty J. Wagner; two sons, Bill Strait Jr of Monroe, and Phillip Strait of Portland; and two daughters, Donna (Gerald) Manor of Portland, and Donna Strait of Portland.
    Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday at Baird-Freeman Funeral Home in Portland.
    Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
    Burial will follow in Bluff Point Cemetery.

Janet K. McAlhaney

    Janet K. McAlhaney, 63, of Monroe, passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2012, in the Extended Care Unit of Woodcrest.
    She was born in Decatur on March 16, 1949, to the late Denver Jack and Bernice (Fennel) Gray.
    On August 29, 1969, she married Leland McAlhaney; he survives in Monroe.
    Janet was a member of The Bridge Community Church in Decatur and had retired from Woodcrest.

Rufine C. Neuenschwander

    Rufine C. Neuenschwander, 92, of Berne, died Saturday in Adams Memorial Hosptial.
    Among survivors are two sons, James A. (Louise) Neuenschwnder and Mark (Jeanene) Neuenschwander, both of Berne; daughers, Rebecca (William) Lehman, Kingman, Ind.; Susan (Frank) Lehman of Berne; Martha Jane (Larry) Uhrick of Wolcottville; and Sandra (Gene) Bradley of Evansville.

Mary Jeanette Speece

    Mary Jeanette Speece, 88, of  Poneto, passed away at 10:24 a.m. on Friday, September 21, 2012, at her residence.
    She was born in Wells County on March 11, 1924, to the late Benjamin Franklin “Frank” and Veda G. (Masterson) Conner.  
    On November 21, 1962, she married Kenneth G. Speece in Bluffton; he preceded her in death on November 29, 1973.

Marian A. Meyer Hedrick

    Marian A. (Ringger) Meyer Hedrick, 75, of Fort Wayne, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2012.
    Raised in Grover Hill, Ohio, Marian attended Grover Hill High School where she graduated as salutatorian; she then graduated with honors from Defiance College in 1958.

David G. MacLean

    David G. MacLean, 81, of Decatur died on September 16, 2012, in Lutheran Hospital.    David served in the United States Air Force. He was self-employed selling Americana Books.
    He is survived by a brother, Don MacLean, of Springfield, IL.
    Graveside services were held Thursday at Decatur Cemetery. Arrangements were by Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home.
