Wilma L. Smith

    Wilma Louisa Smith, 87, Berne, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
    She married the late Carl E. Smith Nov. 14, 1945.
    Survivors include a son, Wayne (Dawn) Smith of Berne; a daughter, Margaret (Dr. Merle) Gibson of Vandalia, Ohio; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Smith.
    Per her request, there will be no visitation or graveside service.
    Burial is in Ehrstine Cemetery in Trotwood, Ohio.

Harry M. Bowers

February 12, 2014

    Harry Martin Bowers, 94, Decatur, died Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
    Harry was born Sept. 17, 1919, in Kirkland Township, to the late Charles R. and Frieda (Ehlerding) Bowers.
    He married Virgene L. Bieberich March 18, 1941; she preceded him in death Nov. 23, 2008.

Gregory J. Rumschlag

February 11, 2014

    Gregory J. Rumschlag, 47, Decatur, died at his residence Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014.
    Greg was born in March 25, 1966, in Decatur, to James M. and the late Patricia A. Rumschlag. He married Billie Jo Burkhart Sept. 1, 1990; she survives.
    He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society. He worked for Bunge and was a member of the Steel Workers Union 15173.

Karen K. Neuenschwander

February 10, 2014

    Karen Kay Neuenschwander, 53, Bluffton, passed away at 5:36 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
    She was born April 15, 1960, in Huntington to the late Mary E. (Douglas) Heck. 
    Karen married Kenneth W. Neuenschwander in Warren, April 30, 1988; he survives.

February 7th

John R. Barger

February 7, 2014

    John “Johnny” R. Barger, 86, was called home to heaven on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 10:20 p.m. Johnny passed away peacefully at home, in the arms of his loving wife, and surrounded by his children. He suffered from end-stage heart disease and Alzheimer’s disease and was receiving hospice care at home since mid-January.

Edward F. Marbach

    Edward F. Marbach, 81, Berne, passed away at 10:54 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, in the Swiss Village Nursing Center.
    He was born Sunday, June 19, 1932, in Adams County, the son of the late Adolph F. and Viola C. (Grote) Marbach. 
    He married Joyce Colleen Lobsiger Dec. 19, 1954; she passed away March 1, 2009.

Norma J. Markley

    Norma Jayne Markley, 81, Decatur, passed away at 3 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at her residence.
    Norma was born Wednesday, Sept. 14, 1932, in Grant County the daughter of the late Forrest E. and Gainess (Baker) Brown.     She married James N. Markley Feb. 24, 1951, in First United Methodist Church, Decatur; he survives.

John Robert Myers

    J. Robert "Bob" Myers, 92, Berne, passed away Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at Swiss Village.
    He was born to Glen and Elta (Tinkham) Myers on Dec. 24, 1921. He married Chloe Kauffman on Sept. 21, 1946.
    Survivors include three daughters; Cheryl (Larry) Leistner of Berne, Carol (Deryll) Liechty of Berne, and Myra (Mark) Moore of Linn Grove, 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Hubert A. Lengerich

February 4, 2014

    Hubert A. Lengerich, 90, Decatur, died at his residence Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014.
    He was born in Adams County, Feb. 4, 1923, to the late Leo H. and Mary (Heimann) Lengerich.
    Hubert was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus 864. He retired in 1988 from Arnold Lumber Co. after 20 years of service.
    Hubert is survived by a brother, Leonard (Leona) Lengerich of Decatur; and several nieces and nephews.

Doris J. Egly

    Doris J. Egly, 95, Decatur, passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at her residence.
    She was born Oct. 21, 1918, in Adams County, to the late James H. and Ethel (Wolfe) Andrews. She married Robert E. Egly Feb. 24, 1940; after 62 years together, he passed away Sept. 9, 2002.
    Doris was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and was a lifelong homemaker.
