Spc. Nicholas A. Taylor

    Spc Nicholas A. "Nick" Taylor, 20, of Berne, died on Monday, July 16, 2012, representing the Indiana National Guard in the country of Kandahar Providence, Afghanistan.    He was born on October 24, 1991, to Tim and Stephania (Montjoy) Taylor of Berne.

James A. Wilhelm

    James A. “Jimmy” or “Willy” Wilhelm, 57, of Fort Wayne, passed away at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2012, in the Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis.
    He was born on January 28, 1955, to the late J. Pete and Mary E. (Harrell) Wilhelm.
    Jim married Teresa J. (Spangler) Wilhelm; she survives in Fort Wayne.
    He graduated from Elmhurst High School in 1973 and from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in business and accounting.

Ray Donald Moodie

    Ray Donald Moodie, 85, of New Haven, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at Parkview Hospital Randallia.
    Born in Fort Wayne, Ray was the son of the late Edwin and Sadie Moodie.
    He was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church. The World War II Navy veteran was a member of American Legion Post 330. He retired after 20 years from Storlok Inc., and also from Lake-End Sales after 19 years. Ray was an avid Chicago Cubs and IU Basketball fan.

Betty A.Yost

    Betty A. (McComb) Yost, of Fort Wayne, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2012, surrounded by her family.
    She was born on January 9, 1927, in Fort Wayne, the daughter of James and Madeline McComb, and granddaughter of David O. McComb.
    Betty graduated from North Side High School in 1945 and went on to attend Western College for Women — now Miami University — transferring to Indiana University as a junior, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority.

Catherine L. Pageler

    Catherine L. “Kay” Pageler, 97, of Fort Wayne, formerly of Decatur, died on July 13 at her residence.
    Among survivors are three daughters, Sue (David) Isch of Winterhaven, Fla., Linda (William) Bay of Decatur, and Becky (Nick) McDowell of Fort Wayne; and a son, Russell E. (Deanna) Pageler of Land O’Lakes, Fla.
    Private services were held.
    Arrangements were by Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home.

    William A. Bailey, 83, of Decatur, died on Monday at his residence.
    There is no visitation or funeral service.
    Arrangements were by Zwick and Jahn Fueral Home.

Cawood Ball

    Cawood Ball, 92, of Bean Station, Tenn., died July 4, 2012, at Lakeway Regional Hospital, Morristown, Tenn.
    He was born November 23, 1919, in Harlan County, Ky.
    Cawood was a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Force during World War II. He retired from The Magnavox Company after 33 years of service as a truck driver, based in Fort Wayne, and later Greeneville, Tenn. He attended First Baptist Church of Bean Station. He was an avid fisherman and original member of the Greeneville Bass Club.

Tomasa M. Serna

    Tomasa M. Serna, 81, of Decatur, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Lutheran Hospital.
    She was born in Malakoff, Texas, on December 28, 1930, to the late Isaac and Alejandra (Guerrero) Mendez.
    On October 28, 1950, she married Eriberto “Bob” Serna; he preceded her in death December 8, 2009.
    Tomasa was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, the Rosary Society and Hispanic Society. She was a homemaker and mother to all.

    Nicholas A. “Nick” Taylor, 20, of Berne, son of Berne Police Chief Tim and Stephania Taylor, lost his life Monday in Afghanistan. 
    Funeral arrangements are pending at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home.

    Imogene E. Grabner, 84, Monroeville, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2012, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, following an extended illness.
    She was born on Wednesday, June 13, 1928, in Allen County to the late Homer J. and Ida C. (McBride) Clay.
    She married Lindy L. Grabner on August 9, 1947; he survives in Monroeville. The couple celebrated 64 years of marriage last August.
    Imogene was a homemaker.
