April 30th
Ernest "Ernie" Eugene Gerardot, 50, of Carmel, passed away shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012, at St. Vincent’s Hospice, Indianapolis, after losing his five-month battle with cancer.
Ernie was born January 9, 1962, in Fort Wayne, the seventh of 11 children born to Leonard S. and Aleta R. (Singer) Gerardot.
He grew up in Monroeville and graduated from Heritage High School in 1980. He graduated from Ball State University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
A memorial service will be held for the late Charlotte E. Vera at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, with Pastor Marcia Kline officiating.
Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Decatur First Presbyterian Church, Adams County Community Foundation Scholarship Fund or Family LifeCare
The family may be reached in care of the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home.
April 27th
Enos M. Schwartz, 3, and Barbara M. Schwartz, 5, passed away April 17, 2012, and Jerry M. Schwartz, 17, of rural Decatur, passed away April 27, 2012, as a result of injuries suffered in a fatal traffic accident.
They were the children of Martin F. and Mary M. (Wickey) Schwartz.
They were Old Order Amish.
Betty M. (Leimenstoll) Beitler, 87, of Decatur, died Friday, April 27, 2012, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
Betty was born in Adams County, on July 17, 1924, to the late John and Irene (Denny) Myers.
On November 8, 1953, she married Lloyd Leimenstoll; he died March 10, 1975.
She married Harry Beitler on August 5, 1981; he died May, 1991.
George Lacatis, 83, of Decatur, passed away at 9 a.m.Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
He was born September 20, 1928, in Dearborn, Michigan, to the late Flore and Catherine (Cosma) Lacatis.
George retired from General Motors in 1989 after 30 years of service in Ypsilanti, Mich.
Catherine K. Schwartz, 77, of Monroe, passed away at 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 26, 2012, at her residence.
She was born on Wednesday, September 12, 1934, in Adams County, to the late Sam K. and Sylvia (Springer) Schwartz.
She married Atlee M. Schwartz on Thursday, March 21, 1957.
Mrs. Schwartz was a member of the Old Order Amish.
April 26th
Patsy R. Hawkins, 78, of Decatur, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, in Lutheran Hospital.
She was born on Wednesday, June 14, 1933, in Decatur, the daughter of the late Jesse and Elta (Hawk) Case.
She married Virgil L. Hawkins on April 14, 1951, in the United Brethren in Christ Church, in Decatur; he passed away on January 16, 2010.
Patsy was a homemaker.
Ivan M. Walters, 84, of Decatur, passed away at 10:20 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Lutheran Hospital.
He was born December 28,1927, in Van Wert, Ohio, to the late Stanley and Freida (Schaadt) Walters.
He married Mary Bess Weyant on November 7,1948; she survives.
He retired after being self-employed, a member of the Portland Elks, and served as a past-president for the Portland Chamber.
April 25th
Patsy R. Hawkins, 78, of Decatur, died at 2:49 p.m. Tuesday in Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Arrangements are pending at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home Decatur.
Zachary Wendell McKee, 27, of Ossian, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012.
He was born on January 7, 1985, to Mark and Julie (Hammond) McKee.
He was a recent graduate of IPFW after studying Political Science. He served in Iraq and Afghanistan with the U.S. Marine Corps.
Surviving family include his parents; siblings Luke McKee of Ossian and Megan (Alex) Schantz of Bluffton; and grandmothers Betty McKee of Ossian and Vera Hammond of Decatur.
