Macklin schools council on EDC successes

    Having read that Adams County Councilman Dennis Bluhm questioned the benefits of the Adams County Economic Development Department near the end of last month’s county council meeting, EDC Executive Director Larry Macklin placed himself on council’s December agenda to address Bluhm’s concerns.

BHS student recognized for excellent PSAT score

    Bellmont High School Principal Kim Harsh Hiatt has announced Monica Miller has been named a Commended Student in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program.
    Miller, a senior at BHS, is the daughter of Charles and Jacqueline Miller. She was honored for achieving high scores on the PSAT test as a junior.

Drug court planned for county in ‘15

    Kelly Sickafoose, executive director of Drug Free Adams County, along with Adams County Superior Court Judge Patrick Miller, appeared before the Adams County Council Tuesday morning to request the annual allocation and distribution of funds for the Drug Free group. During that session, Miller told councilors he is planning to start a drug court for major offenders next year and explained how the program would work.

NA board seeks applicants for District 2 seat

    The new year is almost upon us, bringing with it several changes to Adams County. One of those changes took place Tuesday evening during the meeting of the North Adams school board when board member Jim Voglewede submitted his letter of resignation, effective Dec. 31.

Fort Wayne Philharmonic performs at BHS

     Vocalist Fernando Tarango narrated ‘“Twas the Night Before Christmas” as the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Conductor Chia-Hsuan Lin, performed Tuesday evening at the Erekson Theatre at Bellmont High School.

    Destiny Kennedy is like many other 4-year-old girls. She likes playing with her brothers and loves watching princess movies.
    There is, however, one thing that sets her apart from other children her age. Destiny has a Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma — in layman’s terms, an inoperable brain tumor.
    She recently completed six weeks of radiation at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. She will return in January for her first round of chemotherapy.

Marshal in Monroe is resigning

    Monroe Town Marshal Dio Hernandez has submitted his resignation from that post, effective at year’s end. Hernandez has accepted another employment opportunity in western Indiana.
Monroe Council President Al Lehman said the town is “looking into some things” regarding law enforcement in the town. He said applications for the position are not being accepted at this time. “We need to keep in mind that we have coverage in Monroe” from the Adams County  Sheriff’s Department, Lehman said.

Variances needed for 3rd Street court site parking parking

    Parking was the main area of discussion at Monday morning’s work session of the Adams County Commissioners, specifically as it pertains to a proposed new superior court in Decatur.

     The holiday favorite “The Nutcracker” was presented by the Toledo Ballet to a capacity crowd at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center in Van Wert Saturday night.
 

Bids benefit Monroe FD, sheriff reserves

December 8, 2014

    Items were auctioned off at a fast and furious pace Saturday morning at the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department during the annual auction to benefit the fire department and the Adams County Sheriff’s Reserves. Items for the auction were donated by area merchants and businesses.
