The town of Geneva is looking into a seatbelt ordinance that would generate more money for the town.
At Tuesday's meeting of the Geneva Town Council, Marshall Rob Johnson said that as it currently stands, when a town police officer issues a $25 ticket to a driver for violating the seatbelt law under the state ordinance, "$21 goes to the state and $4 goes to the town."
Two women are among three candidates seeking a seat on the North Adams Board of Education, a seat to be filled by Decatur City Council.
Ben Faurote, who currently holds the seat, filed an application to seek what would be his first full term. The other candidates who filed before last Saturday's deadline are Stacey Bussel and Ada Steiner.
All three are city residents, which they must be to be eligible for the seat.
Dave Sholl of Schenkel and Schultz Architecture on Monday presented the Adams County Commissioners with an estimate of $3,840 to perform a study on the feasibility of adding an addition to the Adams County Courthouse to house superior court, Community Corrections and the probation department.
The proposal includes an assessment of the existing conditions of the courthouse, development of floor plans, site plans, and building section, parking options, cost estimate, and a final presentation to commissioners.
Indiana State Treasurer and U.S. Senate candidate Richard Mourdock will be the featured speaker at the Adams County Republican Party's annual Lincoln Day Dinner. The event will be held Thursday, May 3, at South Adams High School, with a VIP reception at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7.
According to a press release from party officials, the event is open to the public and "everyone is invited to attend and meet with Mourdock prior the May 8 primary election."
The South Adams Schools Board, at a special meeting on Friday, accepted a bid of $747,300 from CDI Development Services LLC, for the former elementary school property located at the corner of US 27 and St. Route 218 in Berne.
The bid from CDI was the only one received and it is $54,500 more than the most recent appraised value of $693,000. However, the property appraised for $721,000 in 2011, when the deal with GKB Enterprises to build a CVS store fell through.
The Limberlost State Historic Site site in Geneva will host a Golden Easter Egg hunt starting at 11 a.m. this Saturday.
Participating youngsters will have the opportunity to gather as many eggs as they can, an announcement said. Those who find special Golden Eggs will win a grand prize.
The unemployment rate in Adams County dropped slightly during February, according to a report issued Friday by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. The new report showed Adams County with a February jobless rate of 8.3 percent, down from 8.5 percent in January and identical to the December 2011 rate.
The county's unemployment rate one year ago was 8.8 percent. Friday's report showed that 1,243 members of Adams County's total labor force of 14,944 remained without work last month.
At a special meeting of the South Adams Schools Board on Friday, board members accepted a $747,300 bid for the former elementary school property from CDI Development Services, LLC, a national development company based in Akron, Ohio. The property is located across from the Muensterberg Plaza and Clock Tower in Berne.

Adams County Clerk Gayla Reinhart has announced that early voting hours for the 2012 May primaries will be observed from Monday, April 9 through Friday, May 4, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on weekdays.
Reinhart also said there will be early voting hours on Monday, May 7, from 8 a.m.-noon, with two Saturday dates, April 28 and May 5, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
All primary voting will be held in the hallway of the courthouse.
The Adams County Community Foundation's 5K Run-Walk Challenge will begin its third season on April 28 with the Run Over Violence at Adams Memorial Hospital, starting at 9 a.m.
The 2012 series will feature nine races (participants must complete seven to qualify for challenge awards):

• CG Sports - Run with Endurance 5K at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 12 in Decatur.
