Lehman starts with proposals on NA staffing

    Brent Lehman presided over his first meeting as the new superintendent of North Adams Community Schools on Tuesday.
    Lehman recently wrapped up his tenure at Randolph Eastern School Corporation, where he spent the past three years as superintendent. Lehman previously served as assistant principal at Norwell High School and as principal and assistant principal at South Adams High School. The former assistant principal at Bellmont High School takes over the reins of the school district from Wylie Sirk.

Limberlost to build SA pavilion; cost is higher than anticipated

    South Adams maintenance director Dave Vorhees gave the school board on Tuesday an update on the work being done at the school.
    Vorhees reported that the football concessions stands and restrooms have been pressure-washed and repainted. He also said that the pool has been drained in preparation for a light acid bath and regrouting. It should be ready for use in September.

3-story courthouse chosen

    The Adams County Council and the county commissioners met early Tuesday morning to receive a presentation from Dave Sholl of SchenkelSchultz on the courthouse study results, which compared a three-story courthouse concept with a four-story concept.

Minnich back in AD post... as an interim

    Former Adams Central Athletic Director (AD) Rick Minnich has been named as the interim AD for the 2013-14 school year. Minnich had retired at the end of the last school year.
    Roger Newton, who was hired as AD by the board in June, resigned the position Monday to accept another job.

Structure defects a concern for NA

    Structural defects in three areas of the exterior walls at Bellmont High School will take nearly $2 million to fully correct, straining the school district's capital improvement fund and leaving school officials searching for sufficient yet cost-effective remedies.
    Larry Carty, business manager at North Adams Community Schools, for months has been providing updates to school board members of the status of walls that are cracked and bowed in the high school's library, theater and gymnasium areas.

Parasailing teens improving

    PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) — One of the Indiana teens injured in a parasailing crash in the Florida Panhandle is out of intensive care.
    Family members say Alexis Fairchild of Huntington, Ind., remains hospitalized in Panama City but has improved enough for two rehabilitation sessions a day to help her get back to walking.

Berne awards two more ‘supers’

    Two more Berne industries have been awarded "super" tax phase-ins as incentives for expansion projects that will bring nearly 100 additional jobs to southern Adams County over the next three years.

Courthouse temps repair being sought

    Prosecutor Chris Harvey attended the county commissioners' meeting on Monday to request their assistance in getting the heating and air conditioning in the courthouse repaired.

Auction to benefit park plans

    Adams Public Library System Director Kelly Ehinger has announced plans for an auction to benefit the new Storybook Park that will be constructed just east of the Decatur library site.
     The auction, which will begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, in downtown Decatur, is being co-sponsored by Yvonne Marie’s Antique Mall and the Decatur Small Business Association.    Further details in today's print and e-editions.

    She just graduated from college, landed a full-time job that she loves and gets to spend time with her friends and family. What’s the catch? Her work day starts at 3:30 a.m. and she eats dinner for breakfast.
    Krista Miller graduated from Bellmont High School in 2009 and moved to Indianapolis where she attended Butler University. She earned a degree in Electronic Journalism and a minor in Political Science.
