Local businessman Ed Dyer has announced his filing for the office of Adams County Treasurer, subject to the Republican primary.
He is the first announced or filed candidate for the position. Current Treasurer Rex Moore cannot seek a new term due to term limits.
A lifelong resident of Decatur, Dyer has been married to Kate (Eichhorn) Dyer for 37 years. Kate has worked in her family business, Eichhorn Jewelry, for over 40 years.

Fifty-seven Adams County Girl Scouts, Daisies, and Brownies recently visited the Adams County Community Foundation in downtown Decatur as part of the annual "Troop and a Tour . . . for the Troops" project.
Each Girl Scout received a presentation about the historical aspects of the building and an overview of the purpose and mission of the Foundation by Executive Director Coni Mayer
The Decatur Chamber of Commerce Awards has announced that Edwin E. Coil has been selected as its recipient of the 2011 Stephen Decatur Award.
He will receive the award at the Chamber's annual dinner meeting on February 2 at the Knights of Columbus pavilion.
During and following his 52 years with the Zollner Corporation, Coil devoted himself to the service of the community in numerous and varied ways, Chamber officials said in making the announcement.
The status quo will remain in effect at the Adams Health Network for the coming year with the annual reorganization of the network being done at its January board of trustees meeting on Wednesday night.
The five members of the trustees — Dr. Robert E. Judge, Russ Flueckiger, Dennis Bieberich, Larry D. Macklin, and Louise Ray — were unanimous in their decision to retain Dr. Judge as chairman of the trustees for another year as well as Flueckiger as vice chairman and Bieberich as secretary.

Bellmont High School will crown its 2012 Silver Arrow queen at halftime of Friday night's boys' basketball game.

Decatur’s premier business event, the Spotlight Business Expo, will be held at Bellmont Middle School on Saturday, March 10. Doors will open at 8 a.m. and the event will continue until 5:30 pm.
Seventy businesses, and community groups will display there products and services, according to Wes Kuntzman, director of the sponsoring Decatur Chamber of Commerce. During the day, entertainers will perform on the main stage and Manley’s Meats will have food available in the cafeteria.
PLEASANT LAKE, Ind. (AP) — A northeastern Indiana police officer shot in the face nearly six weeks ago says he is making steady improvement and hopes to eventually return to work.
‘‘If I’m able to return, that’s what I’m going to do,’’ Waterloo Deputy Marshal Steve Brady told The Star of Auburn on Monday. ‘‘I’m optimistic I’ll go back to work and continue to be a police officer. Time will tell.’’

Adams County ended 2011 with its largest unemployment rate in 10 months, according to figures released Tuesday by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
The county's December jobless rate stood at 8.5 percent, the highest in the county since February of 2011. The year's final figures capped a roller-coaster 12 months for local jobless levels.
Jerry Setser, Barry Humble and Community Corrections officer Ian Gilbert stood as representatives of Serenity House Inc. last week to ask the board of Adams County commissioners for help in funding a proposed Serenity House.
In making their plea to commissioners, the trio touted the need for a recovery house in the county. "Alcohol and drug problems don't stop with a jail sentence," said Humble.
The city of Berne has a parcel of real estate for sale, although potential buyers may be few and far between.
Berne City Council on Monday agreed to offer for sale a .26-acre tract of land, located at the former site of a municipal water tower at the intersection of Welty and Berne streets, for the low price of $3,400.
City attorney Jim Beitler said special rules apply for the sale of municipal property valued at less than $15,000. Two appraisals of the property set the value of the Berne site at $1,750.
