Three bridge projects make travel difficult

    There are currently three different bridge projects under way throughout the county, Adams County Engineer and Highway Department Superintendent Tim Barkey told the Adams County Commissioners Monday at their regular weekly meeting.

State commission urges college students to take 15+ credit hours per semester

     Indiana Commissioner for Higher Education Teresa Lubbers kicked off a statewide “15 to Finish” campaign this week that aims to boost college graduation rates by encouraging Hoosier students to take at least 15 credit hours each semester. Lubbers said studies show students who complete 15 or more credits per semester are more likely to graduate on time, earn better grades and save money on their degrees.

Berne restaurant closed after outbreak

     A Berne restaurant that had its permit to operate temporarily suspended by the Adams County Health Department  last week after testing done by the laboratory of the Indiana State Department of Health  confirmed at least six persons came down with a food borne illness may be allowed to reopen perhaps as early as today.

Elks aid in Girl Scout Cabin renovation

     Decatur Elk members recently joined with Girl Scouts of Adams County for a celebration at the Girl Scout Cabin in Hanna Nuttman Park. Decatur Elks Lodge Exalted Ruler Pat McCormick organized the event, which attracted some 50 participants. The Elks donated $2,000 to make improvements at the Girl Scout Cabin.  Lodge also members volunteered to do plumbing, paint, provide heavy-duty doors for the cabin and other work at the facility.

Sunday crash leaves Decatur woman dead

     The Indiana State Police is investigating a single vehicle crash that occurred Sunday that fatally injured a Decatur woman and hospitalized four others.

Storm batters Willshire area

     A brief but intense summer thunderstorm carrying extremely high winds and heavy rainfall passed through the Willshire area shortly before noon Sunday, leaving several area residents without electrical service for as much as four hours.
    The Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office reported no serious damage as a result of the storm, although an AEP power line was downed across Ohio 81 just east of Willshire. Evidence of wind damage to area corn fields was also present.
