Petitioners want downtown jail site reconsidered

    Downtown business owners Chris Faurote and Ron Franz again appeared before the Adams County Commissioners Monday to express their displeasure with the planned location of a new jail and superior court project along a section of 1st Street in downtown Decatur.

Voting got under way at 6 a.m. today in this year’s primary election and will continue until 6 p.m. In the photo above, voters cast their ballots at Geneva Town Hall early this morning. Turnout was described as light.

Three sculptures from ‘13 Sculpture Tour sold for total of $7,400

    Artists from Decatur, Fort Wayne and New Knoxville, Ohio, have sold sculptures displayed during the 2013 Decatur Sculpture Tour. The DST committee retained a portion of the sale proceeds to help underwrite future sculpture tour efforts and to eventually purchase permanent art for the community.

Ohio City woman pleads guilty to murdering mother

    The Van Wert Independent online newspaper reports an Ohio City woman who pleaded guilty Friday to charges related to the shooting death of her mother could spend the rest of her life in prison when sentenced later this month.

Another jail meeting set; in Decatur this time

The Adams County Commissioners and Adams County Council will host a second public meeting — this one in Decatur — to present information and accept public comment on a county proposal to construct a new jail and superior court facility along 1st Street in Decatur.
The May 12 meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Riverside Center, 231 E. Monroe St.
A similar  public meeting will be held this week in Geneva when the commissioners and council meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Geneva Town Hall., 411 E. Line St.

Primary Election Preview: Adams County Assessor

Incumbent Adams County Assessor Donald Kuhn is being challenged in Tuesday’s primary election by fellow Republican Tyler Hill. Kuhn is completing his first term in office, while Hill is a former deputy assessor in Allen County’s Wayne Township and also spent 30 years in the insurance industry. Both candidates were issued an identical set of questions as part of the Daily Democrat’s pre-election coverage. Following are their responses.

    The Adams County officials have elected to conduct a public meeting to inform the public of specifics of the county’s proposed jail and superior court complex.
    The Adams County Commissioners and the Adams County Council will jointly host a public meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Geneva Town Hall, 411 E. Line St.

Underage drinking: Parents can play key role in ongoing battle, panelists say

    Drug Free Adams County hosted a town hall meeting Wednesday afternoon to discuss the affects underage drinking has on Adams County’s youth.
    Executive Director Kelly Sickafoose introduced three key speakers for the meeting: State Rep. Matt Lehman, Adams County Superior Court Judge Patrick R. Miller and Adams County sheriff’s deputy and Adams Central School Resource Officer Charlie Cook. Other participants were students and members of the Drug Free organization.
