Exact jail site disclosed

    County officials nearly outnumbered members of the public at Wednesday night’s informational session in Geneva on the proposed county jail/superior court project. Only 20 citizens attended the meeting to voice their concerns about the chosen location of the facility before a panel of county commissioners, councilors, the county attorney and several contractual agents connected to the project.  
    The tone and tenor of the discussions remained cordial throughout the evening.

    A company which provides in-home services to the developmentally disabled is planning to construct a training facility in Decatur and city council was asked at its Tuesday night meeting to provide a five-year tax abatement on the real estate.

    In the most hotly-contested race of Tuesday’s primary election balloting, two-term Adams County Treasurer Rex Moore cleared the first step in his return to elected office with a narrow win over Monroe resident and fellow Republican George (Wes) Kuntzman in balloting for the District 2 seat on the board of county commissioners.

Rekeweg is GOP’s pick for sheriff

    Incumbent Adams County Sheriff Shane Rekeweg is headed toward a second term in office — in all likelihood an uncontested one — following his lopsided victory over Deputy Larry Butler Jr. in Tuesday’s primary election balloting.
    Republicans voting in the contested primary race for sheriff handed Rekeweg a 2,089-935 victory over Butler. Rekeweg polled more than 69 percent of all votes cast.

Complaints over PD site are voiced

    The location of the new Decatur police station came up for discussion at Tuesday night’s Decatur City Council meeting, and following some cordial questions and answers, the discussion got a bit testy.
    Mary Byer and Alan (Clyde) Bedwell, each of whom reside on 7th Street near the site of the yet-to-be-built station, posed numerous questions and were provided answers, with some friendly back-and-forth.

Petitioners want downtown jail site reconsidered

    Downtown business owners Chris Faurote and Ron Franz again appeared before the Adams County Commissioners Monday to express their displeasure with the planned location of a new jail and superior court project along a section of 1st Street in downtown Decatur.

Primary elections close at 6 p.m.

Voting got under way at 6 a.m. today in this year’s primary election and will continue until 6 p.m. In the photo above, voters cast their ballots at Geneva Town Hall early this morning. Turnout was described as light.

Three sculptures from ‘13 Sculpture Tour sold for total of $7,400

    Artists from Decatur, Fort Wayne and New Knoxville, Ohio, have sold sculptures displayed during the 2013 Decatur Sculpture Tour. The DST committee retained a portion of the sale proceeds to help underwrite future sculpture tour efforts and to eventually purchase permanent art for the community.
