Freezing rain cancel classes

December 9, 2013

Nearly .25 inches of freezing rain and light snow moved into the area during the overnight hours, coupled with a low temperature around 20 degrees, making for poor road conditions throughout Adams County this morning. The icy roads resulted in all three county schools closing for the day, as well as those in neighboring Jay and Blackford counties in Indiana and Van Wert and Mercer counties in Ohio. Schools in Allen and Wells Counties remained on a two-hour delay at press time this morning

Wednesday’s unseasonably warm December weather allowed Geneva resident Iris Hall to finish putting up her outdoor Christmas decorations in a relatively comfortable way. She finished her holiday decorating in the nick of time, with temperatures for the coming weekend predicted to fall into the single digits.

Zurcher Tire’s expansion plans move forward

    Paul and Sue Zurcher of Monroe, owners of Zurcher Tire, were in attendance at the Monroe Town Council meeting Thursday night to discuss plans to expand their warehouse building. The company intends to buy property from Biggs Property Management and tear down current apartment buildings for the expansion.

Geneva close to filling SRO position at SA

    Geneva Town Marshal Rob Johnson updated town council members of the status of efforts to hire a new school resource officer for South Adams Schools at their regular monthly meeting Tuesday night in the town hall.

Philharmonic’s Holiday Pops concert nears

The Fort Wayne Philharmonic’s Holiday Pops Concert will once again make an appearance in Adams County this season with a performance Tuesday at South Adams High School in Berne beginning at 7 p.m.

Courthouse evacuated

The Adams County Courthouse was evacuated late Wednesday morning and remained closed for the rest of the day after a gas line near the rear of the building was ruptured. The evacuation was the second in Decatur in two weeks, coming on the heels of a Nov. 18 incident which saw residents of Master Drive and Mix and Lewis streets forced from their homes after a similar gas line mishap.
