Ideas flowed freely — some of them possibly feasible, others likely less so — during a Decatur town hall-type meeting held Tuesday evening. The purpose of the meeting, initiated by the Decatur Long Term Advisory Committee, was to narrow the scope of the city’s expected application for a Stellar Commnunities grant intended to enhance the downtown business district and adjoining St. Marys riverfront causeway.
The Fort Wayne Philharmonic presented its Holiday Pops Concert at South Adams High School Tuesday evening. The 64-piece orchestra, under the direction of Assistant Conductor Sameer Patel, performed a variety of holiday favorites to the delight of a large crowd in attendance.

The costs involved in building a new jail, superior court and probation facilities was the primary focus of county officials in an early morning meeting of the Adams County Court Project Committee.

No Swiss, no theme, no approval. That’s what businesses looking to build in Berne may hear if a proposed ordinance requiring new firms and current businesses to have a Swiss-themed building is approved by the Berne City Council.
Under the proposed ordinance, a committee made up of two council representatives, two representatives of the city plan commission, the mayor and two citizens appointed by the mayor would have final approval of any future business design in the city of Berne.
Officer Corey Hamm of the Decatur Police Department was among several law enforcement officers from throughout Adams County to take part in the Fraternal Order of Police’s annual “Shop with a Cop” event to benefit needy children in the community. In total, 33 county youngsters were selected to participate in the shopping spree, held Sunday at the Decatur Walmart store.

More than two dozen boys and girls from Adams County got some warm clothes and a toy or two at the Decatur Walmart store on Sunday, courtesy of the Adams County Fraternal Order of Police. The FOP accepts donations and raises money throughout the year to hold the annual event, in which children in need are treated to an hour-long shopping spree with an officer from one of the law enforcement agencies in the county. Following their shopping trip, the children were treated to pizza at Pizza King.
Nearly .25 inches of freezing rain and light snow moved into the area during the overnight hours, coupled with a low temperature around 20 degrees, making for poor road conditions throughout Adams County this morning. The icy roads resulted in all three county schools closing for the day, as well as those in neighboring Jay and Blackford counties in Indiana and Van Wert and Mercer counties in Ohio. Schools in Allen and Wells Counties remained on a two-hour delay at press time this morning
