Berne bank gets tax breaks

    The first step towards a renovation of the First Bank of Berne building was taken Monday as city council members approved a motion granting a tax abatement for redevelopment of the downtown property.
    Vice president and Chief Financial Officer Jason Hilty and Joe Caffee, a senior vice-president for the bank, met with council to discuss the company's plans for a new building. The bank, which has been at its current location since 1905, was last renovated in 1991, according to Hilty.

    Adams County Service Complex Maintenance Supervisor Dave Meyer updated the Adams County Commissioners on the status of several aspects surrounding the peace monument being constructed on the southwest corner of courthouse square.

Superb fall day

The second full day of autumn started out chilly on Monday, with temperatures in the high 30s, but the rapidly rising mercury made it a superb day to be on the local links. Above, golfer Jerry Hirschy chips toward the green. He and playing partner Mike Allen said it was a perfect day to be on the course.
