At a recent 4-H Dog Club practice in Monroe, Decatur Fire Chief Les Marckel delivered a $100 sponsorship check to the club.
There is a very special connection between Ivy Settlemyre, a nine-year member of the club and drill team captain, and the Decatur Fire Department. Members of the department saved her Australian Shepherd, named Brody, from a fire at the Settlemyre home on Parkview Drive in March of 2011.
Mother Nature did her part as a large crowd in a festive mood turned out on Thursday night for the city's annual Fourth of July celebration.
A few off and on sprinkles were all the crowd had to deal with, but the rain picked up within moments of a great Grand Finale which wound up the 21-minute display.
Command Ssgt. Major Fritz Bultemeyer, Adams County's Service Officer, was the featured speaker.
Clerk-Treasurer Bill Warren presented his proposed budget for 2014 to the Geneva Town Council at its meeting this week.
There was additional money included for a police car, as the police have under-spent their budget so far this year.
Warren said that the budget will definitely be submitted on time, in order to avoid being rejected and having to request additional appropriations to bring the funds from their 2013 numbers to the proposed 2014 numbers. However, no numbers for the budget have been released yet.
