GOP donor's school grade changed

    INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Former Indiana and current Florida schools chief Tony Bennett built his national star by promising to hold ‘‘failing’’ schools accountable. But when it appeared an Indianapolis charter school run by a prominent Republican donor might receive a poor grade, Bennett’s education team frantically overhauled his signature ‘‘A-F’’ school grading system to improve the school’s marks.

Review: Glitch had no effect on ISTEP scores

    INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — An outside review of online glitches that disrupted Indiana’s ISTEP testing this spring concludes those problems had no measurable negative impact on students’ scores, even though they affected nearly a third of the students who took the test.

Panel’s report on city future is outlined

    A committee selected by Decatur Mayor John Schultz has been holding meetings since last October in order to produce recommendations for the city's long-term future.
    Members of the committee are Greg Kitson, Ben Faurote, Anne Razo, Keith Blythe, Jason Brune, Cam Collier, Diedre Miller and Adam Lengerich.
    The committee submitted a lengthy and detailed report to city council on July 16.  The report follows:

Swiss Days winds up; blood drive set

    Saturday was a busy day in Berne, with Swiss Days hitting full stride  and featuring numerous activities, putting a wrap on the four-day event.
    From weiner dog races to stein tossing and a big parade, the activities drew large crowds amid nearly ideal weather.
    The family (see photo) of fallen soldier Nick Taylor served as grand marshals of the annual parade.    

Two city men honored for donations of blood

    Two Decatur men, Jon Hebble and Greg Kitson, have been notified that they are to be inducted into the Fenwal Donation Hall of Fame in recognition of their blood donations over the years.
    "We look forward to working with you to recognize Greg Kitson and Jon Hebble as celebrated blood donors whose commitment to blood donation has helped save and improve countless lives," Fenwal officials said in a message to the Fort Wayne chapter of The American Red Cross.
