With the loss of the federal grant funding School Resource Officers (SRO) in Adams County, and the falling through of the anonymous donation earmarked to cover the salary costs to keep all three Adams County SROs in the schools, concern over the future of all three SROs has been spotlighted over the past few months.
Both North Adams and Adams Central schools announced in June they would find a way to fund the SRO program, ensuring an officer remains at each school, until another solution could be found.
Brent Lehman presided over his first meeting as the new superintendent of North Adams Community Schools on Tuesday.
Lehman recently wrapped up his tenure at Randolph Eastern School Corporation, where he spent the past three years as superintendent. Lehman previously served as assistant principal at Norwell High School and as principal and assistant principal at South Adams High School. The former assistant principal at Bellmont High School takes over the reins of the school district from Wylie Sirk.
South Adams maintenance director Dave Vorhees gave the school board on Tuesday an update on the work being done at the school.
Vorhees reported that the football concessions stands and restrooms have been pressure-washed and repainted. He also said that the pool has been drained in preparation for a light acid bath and regrouting. It should be ready for use in September.
