The National Weather Service (NWS) in Fort Wayne has confirmed an EF-0 tornado touched down on the south side of Willshire, Wednesday night, traveling about three blocks and leaving heavy damage in the area.
The NWS reported the tornado was on the ground less than two minutes with maximum wind speed estimated at 80 mph. Although the tornado was short-lived, it caused substantial damage to homes, ripping off roofs, snapping trees, and rolling a stand-alone garage off its foundation.
"We were very fortunate," Adams County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director John August said this morning.
"There were some power outages in Monroe and a few trees down here and there; other than that, we had nothing reported to us. Those reports (downed trees) came to us from deputies," August said.
Art Booth of the Geneva Fire Department presented a special request to the Geneva Town Council at its June meeting, asking to use the fire station as fire and rescue career training for high school students.
