There were no reports this morning of any major damage here or in the county and, apparently, no ongoing power outages.
Sewer rates in Berne could be going up more than originally anticipated.
While final financing for a proposed $3.9 million upgrade to the city of Berne's waste water treatment plant will ultimately determine the final scope of that rate hike, various scenarios laid out before Berne City Council on Monday suggest that the increase will be more than the $5-7 monthly that was anticipated earlier this year.
The North Adams board of education on Tuesday evening approved a hefty increase in the rates to be paid to substitute bus drivers in the district.
North Adams Business Manager Larry Carty at last month's meeting recommended a 50 percent increase in the pay currently offered to drivers. His recommendation came after illness and personal matters had left the district short of drivers on more than one occasion. The board failed to act on Carty's recommendation at its May meeting and asked him to gather more information.
