The Indiana Department of Local Government Finance delivered a crushing blow to the proposed 2013 operating budget for North Adams Community Schools early last week. The state budget review commission trimmed some $500,000 from the district's Capital Projects fund for the current year, leaving school officials in a wait-and-see mode when it comes to the fate of building repair projects later this year.
With the retirement of Adams Central Superintendent Mike Pettibone looming, Pettibone continues to show his commitment to the school's future by proposing an incentive package for retiring certified staff.
Pettibone proposed a $15,000 retirement incentive for AC teachers and administrators to the Adams Central Board of Education on Tuesday, noting that the incentive would not include himself.
Community Corrections Director Ian Gilbert came before the county council on Tuesday to ask for appropriations to upgrade the department's computer system.
