Sheriff Shane Rekeweg brought a contract for a new Public Safety Access Point (PSAP) from Frontier to be signed by the commissioners at their Tuesday meeting.
In his report to the Adams County Commissioners on Tuesday, county technical department head Landon Patterson announced that he is exploring the possibility of completely redoing the county's website.
Patterson reported that at present, many departments don't like to keep their information on the website up to date because it isn't user-friendly. He also said that the website isn't very interactive, and is mostly just an information dump.
The action was swift and rugged — sort of — as K105's traveling basketball team defeated the Adams County Crime Fighters in the Bellmont gym on Monday night.
A nice-sized crowed turned out to see the fun and games.
No one was able to win the $15,000 at halftime, but Sam Smitley got a head rub from Casey the Cash Cow and in the end everyone said "congrats" before heading home.
Proceeds went to the local Crime Stoppers organization.
According to information released today, Tye L. Elder, 22, Interlaken Drive, Berne, was arrested by the Berne Police Department last Thursday on three methamphetamine-related charges:
Possession of meth, the manufacture of meth, and maintaining a common nuisance.
Elder is being held without bond at the county jail.
Marine Corporal Josh Bleill and current Colts quarterback Chandler Harnish will each share their inspiring life stories in the Bellmont High School auditorium at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 4, a free event sponsored by the Men’s Community Fellowship of Adams County.
Proceeds from free-will donations going to Wounded Warriors, an announcement said.
The late John Friedt graduated from Bellmont High School in 1973, his prep wrestling career over.
"He could have quit in '73, but John never left the wrestling room," said John's teammate, friend, and coaching buddy, Dave Schirack.
"No doubt, John was that one person you think of when you look at our program. We all contributed a little bit, but John Friedt was the Godfather of Bellmont wrestling."
The Adams Central Board of Education (ACBOE) is seeking a candidate for superintendent of schools, and is asking for input from staff, students, and the community regarding expectations for the new superintendent, according to a news release.
To make the process easier the school has established an email for people to make their wishes or concerns for the new superintendent known to the board. The emails will go directly to the board and be shared with all members, the news release said.
A total of 206 dogs were brought to the Adams County Animal Shelter in 2012, with an 84 percent claim and adoption rate and a 16 percent euthanization rate, according to a year-end report submitted by shelter officials to the county commissioners.
The report also noted that 278 cats were brought yo the shelter, with a 42 percent claim and adoption rate, and a 58 percent euthanization rate.
In all, 484 dogs and cats wound up at the shelter last year.
In clarifying the situation about this week's decision on a new superior court building, Adams County Commissioner Doug Bauman said Thursday that the only decision made in a meeting between the commissioners and county council is that there will be no building attached to the current courthouse.
The final decision on whether or not to construct a new building for the superior court will be up to the voters in a future referendum, Bauman said.
Three candidates in last year's elections who filed late campaign finance reports will not be fined, the Adams County Election Board decided at a recent meeting.
John Minch of Berne, a Democrat who unsuccessfully sought a seat on the county council, was two days late filing his report, according to Adams County Clerk Gayla Reinhart.
