Plaza purchased by AEP; substation planned

    What has been rumored for several weeks came to light as fact at Tuesday night’s Decatur City Council meeting: American Electric Power has purchased the vast majority of the Decatur Plaza Shopping Center at the north edge of Decatur and will construct a substation to mainly service nearby Bunge North America.

Less ugly by the day

     Crews from Arnold Construction are hard at work this week installing a new brick wall at the intersection of Monroe and 2nd streets. Work started a few weeks ago and brick-laying started last week. The brick work is expected to take approximately four weeks to complete. The Arnold firm also did the work on the recently-completed  Monroe fire station.

    During an October meeting of public officials scheduled by Adams County Sheriff Shane Rekeweg to discuss jail overcrowding issues, Commission Chairman Doug Bauman and Councilors Eric Orr and Stan Stoppenhagen discussed possible options which might be available in addressing the recently escalating problem.

County escapes storm’s brunt

    Adams County and most of the immediate surrounding area was spared the wrath of severe weather which passed through much of the Midwest on Sunday.
    There were no reports of injury or serious damage in the county, with law enforcement officials reporting minor instances of downed limbs and blowing debris.
    The severe weather siren went off in Decatur at 4:39 p.m., but stopped a few minutes later.

    The primary suspect in a Van Wert, Ohio double shooting has been arrested and is charged with murder, according to a spokesman for the Van Wert Police Department.
    Shortly after 10 a.m. Friday Van Wert Police Lt. Douglas Weigle confirmed Tamara K. Menke, 47, Van Wert, was apprehended after an exhaustive search. Police received a 911 call around 6 p.m. Thursday with reports of a shooting, according to Weigle. Upon arrival police discovered two persons had been shot and Menke, who was identified as the primary suspect, was on the loose.

    Van Wert (Ohio) Police have released a photo of Tamara K. Menke, 47, who is wanted in connection with an overnight shooting that left one dead and another seriously injured.
    Menke is considered armed and dangerous, according to police. Menke is described as a white, 5 feet, 6 inches tall female weighing 150 pounds. She has brown hair and hazel eyes and was last seen wearing camouflage clothing.
