The North Adams Community Schools' board of education has enlisted the assistance of a consortium of officials from the four Indiana state universities in its search for a new superintendent of schools.
The board on Tuesday evening voted 6-0 to utilize the services of the state's University Placement Team in finding a replacement for Superintendent Dr. Wylie Sirk, who last month announced his pending retirement, effective July 1, after 36 years in the education field — 19 of them at North Adams Community Schools.
One elected and one appointed member of the North Adams school board were issued their oaths of office Tuesday evening as the board began a new calendar year with a new look.
Incumbent Tim Ehlerding and newcomer Al Converset were sworn into office as the board's first order of business for 2013. Mark Bulmahn, who was elected in November to a seat on the board, was absent and will be sworn in next week.
Sheriff Shane Rekeweg attended Adams County Council's monthly meeting Tuesday morning to inform the council of problems he and Information Technology Director Landon Patterson were having with the 911 information-gathering software.
Rekeweg explained that every time a call is made to 911, software is supposed to pull information about the caller, including the caller's location and phone number, so that the dispatcher knows where to send help.
