The North Adams Community School's board of education will meet for the first time of 2013 — and for the first time with its new seven-member format — at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the district administration building.
New members Mark Bulmahn and Al Converset will be seated on the board to start the new year, joining incumbents Tim Ehlerding, Michelle Stimpson, Ben Faurote, Deb Bergman and Stacey Bussel.
It has been announced that the Adams County Winning with Wellness Initiative has been chosen to participate in a five-year, multistate study involving Purdue Extension to find causes and preventions for childhood obesity in low-income preschoolers in rural communities, including two Indiana counties.
Winning With Wellness (WWW) consists of a cross-section of community leaders whose mission is to raise awareness of and encourage involvement in the many wellness opportunities within Adams County, according to a news release.
A Decatur native and Bellmont graduate has reached a new plateau in the United States Navy and this city is adding its congratulations. Tony Frey, a 24-year Navy veteran, will be promoted to the rank of captain this Saturday at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Florida. He is the son of John (a former city council member here) and Kathy Frey, longtime Decatur residents who now live in St. George, Utah.
