September 11th
Everything looks "real well" with the work that has been completed on the courthouse, according to Dave Meyer of the county's building and maintenance department.
Meyer told the county commissioners on Monday that he met with architect Dave Sholl, of Schenkel and Schultz Architecture, last Friday to inspect the nearly completed restoration of the courthouse.
The Decatur Chamber of Commerce resumed its monthly luncheon series Monday at the Woodcrest retirement community with a talk from Lisa Smith, Ivy Tech Community College outreach coordinator for Adams County.
Smith said Ivy Tech currently has 150,000 students at 29 locations in Indiana, and offers classes in more than 75 individual communities. The college's northeast division, which includes campuses in Fort Wayne, serves more than 10,000 students, she said.

The official 2013 United Way campaign is under way.
Approximately 50 people attended a recent kickoff luncheon to hear testimonials from three Adams County agencies as to the importance of United Way funding for their activities.
Sharon Tester, who heads the Adams County Council on Aging, talked about the transportation program which provided 7,496 one-way trips last year.
Adams Central seniors Isaac Luginbill and Mary Fox were revealed as AC's Homecoming King and Queen on Friday night before the Flying Jets played the Garrett Railroaders.
Members of the Homecoming Court are Kelsey Barker, Bess Fiechter, Sydnee Peterson, Olivia Macklin, Aubrie Sanders, Stine Sanne, Cody Walburn, Josh Thieme, Nathan Barger, Pierce Harris, David Teeple, and Hansen Fuentes.
The crowning culminated Homecoming Week at the Monroe school.
Twelve Adams County Boy Scouts recently visited the Adams County Community Foundation (ACCF) as part of the annual “Troop and a Tour … for the Troops” project.
Each Scout received a presentation about the historical aspects of the building and a professional overview of the purpose and mission of the foundation by Executive Director Coni Mayer.

Quotes from two of five contractors selected by Berne City Council to take part in the bidding process for a roof replacement project at the South Adams Senior Center have been deemed "non-responsive" and will not be accepted.
It's budget time again for area governments and Monroe's proposed budget for 2013 was reviewed Thursday night during the first of two public hearings before final approval on October 4 by the town council.
The overall proposed budget for 2013 is $391,900. That's up $7,030 from the 2012 budget, according to official documents.
Summer may be nearing an end, but lawns still need to be cut and trash needs to be cleared out of yards in the town of Monroe, according to the town council.
During Thursday night's meeting, President Al Lehman said he wants to remind the residents that there is a town ordinance mandating residents keep their lawns cut and property free of trash. Lehman said the town is well kept, for the most part, but there has been an ongoing issue with "a few houses that just can't seem to get it done."

The Oakwood Addition south of Decatur continues under a boil advisory due to major problems with its water system, but at this point there is no way the City of Decatur could or would come to the rescue.
Councilman Matt Dyer raised the matter at Tuesday night's city council meeting, asking if it would be possible for the city to provide water to the residents of Oakwood, also known as Yost Woods.
The annual Berne Heritage Festival will be held at Swiss Heritage Village and Museum this Saturday from 9 a.m-5 p.m.
The event will feature children’s games, senior activities, and visitors may be invited to spin wool, churn butter, or shell corn with a hand crank sheller.
