The Adams Central Board of Education will accept applications through Monday, December 31, for an open position on the board.
The board will meet on January 7 to interview applicants and will appoint a new member on January 14, according to an announcement.
Those interested in applying for the position may submit letters of interest to the Board of School Trustees, Adams Central Community Schools, 222 W. Washington St., Monroe, IN 46772.

The Adams County sheriff’s and Berne police departments in mid-September collaborated to quickly arrest four suspects in attacks on members of the Amish community in the Berne area. The story was voted as the Number 7 story of the year by employees of the Daily Democrat.

In an effort to ease some of the apprehension of returning to school, the Connecticut Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) is spearheading a nationwide snowflake campaign for the students of Sandy Hook Elementary School.
The goal is to hang individual paper snowflakes throughout their temporary school location as a surprise for the children when they reconvene in January, according to a news release.

Indiana's unemployment figures remained static at 8.0 percent during November, although jobless rates in virtually all northeast and east-central Indiana counties jumped significantly from the previous month's levels.
Adams County saw a .8 percent increase during the month, with unemployment rising from 6.6 percent in October to 7.4 percent in November, according to figures released Friday by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

A Decatur man who pleaded guilty last week to the attempted rape of a mentally handicapped teen earlier this year was sentenced to 12 years in prison Thursday by Adams Circuit Court Judge Frederick A. Schurger.
According to Adams County Prosecuting Attorney Chris Harvey, Matthew C. Bodle, 30, who had previous convictions of theft and failure to appear, among others, had requested the judge sentence him to six years in prison followed by four years probation.
Adams Health Network (AHN) continues to show a bottom financial line that is in the black even though total operating revenue for the first 11 months of 2012 totaled $2,119,962 less than what had been budgeted for that same time period.
The key, that hospital officials noted to members of the AHN Board of Trustees at their monthly meeting Wednesday night, is that expenses are also significantly less than what had been expected, to the tune of $1,759,867.

A potential stumbling block that could have possibly nixed the sale of the downtown onetime bank building at Second and Monroe streets to the City of Decatur was removed Wednesday night when the Adams Health Network (AHN) Board of Trustees agreed to drop a stipulation to the sale.
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — A judge has decided that two northeastern Indiana school districts can sell vacant schools without following a state law requiring them to wait four years in case a charter school wanted to claim the building.
Allen Superior Court Judge Nancy Boyer ruled Tuesday that the 2011 law setting the waiting period didn’t change other laws on how districts can sell property. Boyer also found the waiting period forced districts to bear unnecessary costs for maintaining vacant buildings.
