City utility rates will be rising

    Utility rates in Decatur will be going up in the near future, but it has nothing to do with a new batch of sewage which will be coming Decatur's way from several rural areas.
    Last week, the board of the Adams County Regional Sewer District board selected a subcommittee to negotiate with the city the rates it (the city) will charge for county sewage sent to the Decatur treatment plant.

.37 hikes July rain here to 1 inch

    Decatur got some long-awaited rain on Wednesday and more appeared to be on the way late this morning.
    Officials at the city weather station said .37 of an inch was recorded there up to 7 a.m. today and that boosted the city's rainfall to exactly one inch this month.
    The June rainfall here was 1.08.

Fallen power line sparks grass fire

    The Decatur Fire Department responded to a grass fire at the home of Laura Love, 4353 E 700 N, Wednesday afternoon.
    Firefighters were dispatched at 1:40 p.m. after a snapped tree top knocked down a power line, sparking the grass fire, according to a department spokesperson.
    Since the line was "hot," Love was told to remain inside the home by the first emergency personnel to arrive. Indiana & Michigan Power repaired the damage later.
