The daughter of Paul and Kathy Gross, Marykate "Katie" Birch, 38, has been chosen as one of two honorary co-chairs by the Adams County Relay for Life Committee for the 2012 event, slated to start at 12 noon Saturday at Adams Central's football stadium.
Katie graduated from Bellmont High School and lives south of Decatur with her family: children Isaac, 18; Maverick, 16; and Gabrielle, 11; and her husband, Matt Birch.
The $291,100 project to replace most of Decatur's approximate 2,500 street signs is moving along more rapidly than expected, Street/Sewer Superintendent Jeremy Gilbert told city council on Tuesday night.
Michiana Contracting of Plymouth is doing the work, mostly funded through a federal grant, and had already replaced some 500 signs, Gilbert said Tuesday night.
Decatur received its first significant rainfall of the month on Thursday when an early-evening storm dumped 8-10ths of an inch here, according to officials at the city weather station.
Only 3-10ths of an inch had been recorded in the first 20 days of the month.
A high in the 90s was recorded for the fourth day in a row, but highs here are expected to drop back into the 80s today and the 70s by the first of the week.
