Adams County Sheriff Shane Rekeweg announced Friday that there has been a third fatality resulting from the April 17 accident involving an Amish buggy and a van on SR 124 near CR 400W.
Rekeweg said Jerry M. Schwartz, 17, who has been hospitalized since the accident, has died as a result of his injuries.
No information regarding the condition of Mary M. Schwartz, 44, who was transported by helicopter to a Fort Wayne hospital, has been released.
Residents of Oakwood Terrace Apartments in Berne who survived a devastating fire this week surveyed the damage and tried to salvage some of their belongings on Thursday afternoon.
Jeremy Weaver, a friend of apartment complex owner/manager Keith Hansel, said, "Demolition is expected to begin on Tuesday." He added that after the burned-out building is razed, rebuilding will begin immediately and should take about two weeks to complete.
Zachary McKee, a 27-year-old Ossian resident, was about to graduate from IPFW in May with a political science degree and begin working at the Indiana Statehouse. Four years as a distinguished U.S. Marine was on his resume.
Then he tragically died in an unusual accident near Chicago on Sunday.
Dave Meyer of the county buildings and grounds department reported to county commissioners Monday that he received a quote of $58,631 from Atlas Building Services to add window flashing to the third floor windows across the front of the Service Complex.
Alternately, Atlas quoted a price of $16,736 to clean the area and add a water repellant to the windows.
There has been a problem with leakage at the complex for quite some time, according to Meyer.
