A proposed budget for the 2013 calendar year was adopted at the recent meeting of the Adams Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees.
Chief Financial Officer Dane Wheeler told the trustees the budget "is a very conservative estimate, very tight. One major catastrophe could throw the whole budget out of whack."
The Daily Democrat its taking its annual look at the year's top stories, as chosen by employees of the newspaper. This year, we've decided to stretch out the usual Top 10 to a Top 12 — or 12 in '12.
The unauthorized involvement of a convicted sexual predator in the girls basketball program at South Adams was voted as the Daily Democrat's No. 4 story of 2012.

While some Indiana residents continued digging out Thursday from a winter storm that brought life to a standstill in southern parts of the state, Decatur and Adams County residents were mostly back to normal today ... normal, that is, in the aftermath of a 3.5-inch snowstorm.
Don't put the shovels and snow blowers away yet, however. The National Weather Service revised its forecast overnight and now says there is a 50 percent chance of snow showers in this area tonight.
The interim administrator the Woodcrest Retirement Center in Decatur has had the “interim” removed from his title as Adams Health Network (AHN) President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Nordwick has announced that Bill Watson has been appointed vice president of long-term care for AHN.
A fairy tale story with a tragic ending was voted as the No.5 news story of 2012 by employees of the Decatur Daily Democrat.
On September 15, Decatur resident Bob Brown married his childhood sweetheart, Edith Northrup, in Berne. It was a match 50 years in the making.
On June 9, 1960, at the age of 19, Brown came into contact with 7,200 volts of electricity while working at a construction site. He lost both of his hands and both of his feet in the accident and wore prosthetic limbs since that time.

Decatur and Adams County were returning to normalcy today after the season's first major snowstorm hit the area in the first week of winter.

Bill Borne attended his last official meeting as Adams County Auditor on Wednesday, after serving two four-year terms in that office.
Chairman Doug Bauman began the weekly county commissioners meeting by recognizing this, thanking Borne for his contribution, and adding, "In my opinion, Bill Borne is a very, very knowledgeable person when it comes to county government."

As of 12:30 p.m., Adams County is now at a WATCH Travel Alert Level. According to the Adams County Emergency Management, this status means that conditions are threatening to the safety of the public.

Light snow began in falling in Decatur shortly after 7 a.m. today as the city and Adams County hunkered down awaiting the first major blast of winter.
Snow accumulations of four to six inches are possible here, the National Weather Service (NWS) said. Blustery winds had already arrived, with 20-25 mph blowing and gusts up to 35 mph.
This area remained under a winter storm warning.
