Geneva Clerk-Treasurer Bill Warren told council members at Tuesday's council meeting that he was informed by the Department of Local Government Finance (DLGF) that the proposed 2013 town budget will not be approved for the requested amount of $574,767.
Warren said he missed a technical "growth factor" deadline which was for a property tax review form for non-binding review. The deadline was Sept. 4, but Warren submitted the information on Sept. 5.
A special event to honor veterans will be held Saturday morning at the Decatur Walmart store, with public participation encouraged.
Starting at 9 a.m., veterans who work at the store as well as veterans of the community will be honored. "We would like to thank them all for the service that they have done for all of the people of America," a Walmart news release said.

KNIGHTSTOWN, Ind. (AP) — An effort is under way to upgrade one of the most prominent tourism destinations in Henry County.
The Hoosier Gym Community Center seeks to raise funds for a new roof over the lobby of the facility.
While the 90-year-old gym itself is intact, water damage is visible in the lobby from the leaky roof. The lobby is where historic photographs and movie memorabilia are kept.
