The most recent purchase agreement for the former South Adams Elementary School property has fallen through.
Jim Schwarzkopf has been hired as the interim assistant South Adams Elementary School principal for the remainder of the school year. According to Superintendent Scott Litwiller, his main responsibility will be the supervision of elementary students and staff. The decision was made unanimously by school board members at a special meeting on Tuesday (Tony Mellencamp was absent).
Democrat incumbent Frederick Schurger and political newcomer Chad Kuklehan, a Republican, are the candidates for the Adams County Circuit Court judge seat on November 6.
Schurger, a rural Decatur resident, was appointed as judge of the Adams County Circuit Court by former Gov. Frank O’Bannon on Aug. 2, 1999. He was elected in 2000 and re-elected in 2006.
Kuklehan, who resides at 227 N. 13th St., has been a practicing attorney for the last 10 years. He is making his first bid for elected office.

Adams Central's Squadron of Sound will be returning to Lucas Oil Stadium and the Indiana State Music School Association (ISSMA) marching band State Finals.
The Squadron will perform at 5:09 p.m. Saturday. Adams Central made its last trip to the finals in 2009, placing ninth.
The AC group was one of 10 bands emerging from last weekend's Class D Semistate competition at Franklin High near Greenwood. A total of 20 bands took part there.
It wasn't the largest crowd for a Callithumpian Parade, but given the weather, it was a good one.
Estimates of Monday night's turnout for the annual parade were in the 5,000 range, not bad at all considering the weather predictions that included big gusts of wind. The temperature stood at 44 degrees when the parade kicked off around 7 p.m., with wind-chill readings in the mid-30s.
The decision by long-time Republican Kenyon Sprunger not to seek re-election to the Adams County Council this year assures that at least one new member will join that body in 2013. If county Democrats have their way, there will be as many as three new faces on the council.
Surviving a crowded May primary and advancing on to the November general election were incumbent Republican councilmen Randy Colclasure and Dennis Bluhm. Joining them on the ballot will be fellow Republican Tony Mellencamp.

A major project was completed recently with final blacktopping in the Anthony Wayne Meadows addition.
Throughout last summer and earlier, a combination of city workers and local contractors addressed numerous concerns within the addition, such as drainage problems, curbing, poor condition of asphalt, and ADA (American Disabilities Act) compliance.
Six candidates are vying for two seats from District 2 on the North Adams Community Schools’ board of education in the first-ever public elections for board seats.
The top vote-getter in the District 2 voting will receive a four-year term that will start Jan. 1, 2013. If an incumbent board member is the top vote-getter, that person will automatically earn a new term on the board, effective Jan. 1, 2013. Their vacated seat would then be filled by a vote of the school board.
Anyone interested in a prime spot of real estate in downtown Decatur with access to a state highway and plenty of free parking?
The Adams Health Network (AHN) doesn't have a bridge to sell you, but it does have a landmark building in Decatur to offer, having recently announced it plans to sell its former Health Services Complex at Second and Monroe streets downtown. Prior to the hospital owning the building, it was for many years occupied by the First State Bank of Decatur.

Decatur's annual Callithumpian Parade is scheduled to begin its journey through downtown at 6:57 p.m. Monday.
After forming in the areas around Stratton Place and Bellmont High School, the parade will travel west on Monroe St., then go south on Second St., eventually breaking up in an area around Five Points (Adams St. intersection).
Decatur industrialist Vic Porter will serve as parade grand marshal.
