Children growing up in the war-torn African nation of Uganda often face a perilous existence. Jerry Nussbaum, 67, of Berne, who was shot 10 days ago by an Indiana state police trooper in a standoff in downtown Decatur, remains in critical condition at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne as of Saturday, according to a state police report.
Decatur firefighters were called out on Saturday to assist at a farm silo fire in southern Adams County and were sent this morning to a small blaze at the Bunge North America complex in the city.
The Saturday fire, which was first dispatched to the Berne Fire Department, occurred at the Kent Werst farm, 2570 W. County Rd. 750 South. The Decatur department sent its aerial platform truck, which can be extended to more than 100 feet and was used to reach the top of the silo.
