Unopposed off ballots here

    The ballots for the November 8 general elections in Decatur and Berne will contain only the names of the candidates in contested races, not the names of unopposed candidates.
    Monica McCormack, the Adams County deputy clerk in charge of elections, told the Daily Democrat that the ballots will have only the seven contested races — one in Decatur and six in Berne — for two reasons.

Homestead and other deductions changed

    Adams County Auditor Bill Borne says he has been told of new interpretations of state tax law by officials at Indiana Department of Local Government Finance (DLGF).
    The interpretations concern the application of deductions for taxpayers. Borne said that, effective immediately, several longstanding applications of the homestead and other deductions to property will change for the 2011, pay 2012, tax year, based on qualified taxpayers applying for the deductions.

Relative may move Dillinger house

    MOORESVILLE, Ind. (AP) — A relative of 1930s gangster John Dillinger might move a central Indiana farmhouse that was owned by his family, saying local officials haven’t shown any interest in his plans to turn it into a tourist attraction.
