Officials of the Decatur Fire Department have announced that the cause of the fire which took the lives of an elderly married couple in the city last Thursday was due to overloading of the electrical circuits in their home.
Claude and Donna West, ages 74 and 71, respectively, died of smoke inhalation in their house at 720 Elm St. There funeral service was scheduled for 1 p.m. today in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home.
Seth T. Curtis, the 25-year-old Redkey man charged with six crimes in regard to a robbery attempt last Sunday at the CVS store in Berne, has been arraigned in Adams Circuit Court and was set for trial on December 2.
He is being held in the Adams County Jail under a $100,000 bond on the following charges:
• Attempted robbery with a deadly weapon, since he was allegedly carrying a pellet pistol, which is classified as a deadly weapon, according to Adams County Prosecutor Chris Harvey.
A proposed budget for 2012 of more than $10.5 million for Adams Central Schools will be advertised publicly, given approval by the AC school board on Thursday night. Board member Mike Brown was absent.
The proposed budget of $10,519,216, which will likely be reduced by state officials, includes these 2012 subtotals, with the actual subtotals for 2011, after changes by state finance officials, in parentheses:
General Fund — $6,900,000 ($6,501,725).
