TONIGHT'S COUNTY SPELLING BEE IS POSTPONED. ALL SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED. ALL RED GOLD SHIFTS ARE OFF.
Decatur received four and a half inches of snow overnight, but the big one apparently is yet to come.
The National Weather Service said one to two inches of snow is possible in the Decatur area today, followed by another two to four inches tonight.
How bad is it going to get?
On Monday, the day before a vast winter storm bore down, the head of emergency management in Adams County, John August, told the county commissioners that the county's emergency operations center (EOC) would be opened today at 8 a.m. Tuesday to prepare for perhaps two days of work to deal with the weather.
The EOC is located in the basement of the county jail and will be staffed at all times for as long as required, according to August.
All Adams County schools were closed today with four and one-half inches of new snow on the ground and more on the way. Tonight's county spelling bee has been postponed until Tuesday, Feb. 8, starting at 6:30 p.m. in St. Joseph Catholic School in Decatur. All three shifts at Red Gold in Geneva have been cancelled.
