City is creating a TIF District

    The process of developing what is described as a powerful economic development tool continued moving toward reality on Tuesday night, getting a green light from Decatur City Council.
    The tool is what is known as a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District, which was sought by the city's new redevelopment commission.

Big crowd for a big night

    The annual Callithumpian parade was held under mild October skies Monday evening as characters of every description wound their way through the spectator-lined streets of Decatur for nearly 90 minutes.
    The top three floats in the parade, as named by the Callithumpian Committee, were: first place, Decatur Daily Democrat; second, United Steel Workers Local 715; and third, Decatur Veterinary Hospital.

Ground is broken for visitors’ center

    It will cost $852,500.
    It will have a classroom, an exhibition area, a wildlife viewing area, a gift shop, restrooms, and an office.
    It has been wished for for many years.
    That, in a nutshell, describes the 4,000-square-foot visitor center which will rise by next fall beside the Limberlost State Historic Site (LSHS) in Geneva.

Project to aid those in CC

    Two free programs designed to advise people in Adams County's Community Corrections (CC) system about how to eat healthily and manage their money better will start this month, led by a new staffer in the local Purdue University Extension Service office.
    The project was revealed at Monday's meeting of the commissioners by county CC Director Ian Gilbert and Nancy Manuel, who joined the county's Purdue extension staff in September.
