A large reduction in state funds for the Energy Assistance Program that's operated by Community and Family Services (CFS) has occurred and that loss will affect how much CFS will be able to assist people in need during the upcoming winter.
Millie Deaton, who heads the Adams County CFS office, said the agency received $4 million from Indiana for the winter of 2010-11, but was cut to $500,000 for the coming winter.
Fourteen candidates seeking election to municipal offices in Berne and Decatur had their four minutes of fame Thursday evening during a Meet The Candidates event in Berne.
The forum, sponsored by the Decatur and Berne Rotary Clubs and broadcast live over radio station WZBD, was held at Swiss Village retirement community in Berne.
Candidates used their alloted four minutes of air time to outline their candidacies for six contested races in Berne and one in Decatur.
Travis Brown, a motivational speaker, met with Bellmont Middle School and St. Joseph School students at BMS on Wednesday.
Brown encouraged local youngsters to step up and make a difference in their school and their world by being positive and encouraging to others.
Later in the afternoon he met with 60 BMS students, training them to live to their fullest potential, to strive to be lifelong learners, and to be leaders at BMS by standing up for what is right everyday.
