Public defender board fails to add Johnson for 2015

Joe Johnson III, reinstated by the Adams County Public Defender board last month after a series of legal issues led to the Decatur attorney’s suspension as a member of the public defender’s office, will not return to that office in 2015.
    The defender board met Thursday morning in the county commissioners’ room of the Service Complex. The meeting began with an executive session “to discuss an individual’s status as a contract employee,” according to meeting minutes from Auditor Mary Beery.

$1.3 mil East Monroe St. contract awarded

    A major road reconstruction project which has been in the planning stages since 2011 will be coming to fruition next spring.
    Fleming Excavating of rural Decatur has been awarded the contract for the East Monroe Street project by the Indiana Department of Transportation. The city of Decatur received a federal grant for the project, but INDOT handles all aspects of it.
    Fleming had the low bid of just more than $1.3 million.

Cameron Allen Barnes (additional information)

    Cameron Allen Barnes, 25, of Decatur, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014, in Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
    He was born on Wednesday, Aug. 16, 1989, in Decatur, the son of  Debra (Rauch) Barnes and Brian Barnes.
    Cam was employed in the die cast department at FCC in Berne and had previously worked as a supervisor at Prestress Services Industries in Decatur.

R. Scott Biedermann

    R. Scott Biedermann, 55, of Wolcottville, passed away Monday, Dec. 15, at his home.
    He was born Aug. 21, 1959, in Decatur to Walter and Helen (Johnson) Biedermann.
    He graduated from Bellmont High School in 1977, followed by a career of over 30 years in the lamination field at both Fleetwood and Dutchmen Manufacturing.

Dale C. Englehardt

December 19, 2014

    Dale C. Englehardt, 55, Marengo, died Dec. 15.
    Among survivors are three daughters, Takoa (Jason) Banter of Berne, Cassi Miller of Bryant, and Kyli Miller of Pennville; three brothers, including Chris (Ginger) Englehardt of Berne; and four sisters.
    Funeral services were held in Marengo on Dec. 17. Additional services were held Thursday at Glancy-Downing Funeral Home in Geneva.
    Burial will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Bryant.

Eldon Hilty

December 19, 2014

    Eldon Hilty, 53, of Monroe, passed away at 12:23 a.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at his residence in Monroe.  He was born on Saturday, Oct.14, 1961, in Monroe. He was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. 
    He had worked for Hilty Home Sales for several years.  Eldon had had a lifelong battle with muscular dystrophy.

Elmira R. Wulliman

    Elmira R. Wulliman, 94, Berne, passed away on Dec. 19, 2014, at Swiss Village, where she was a resident. She was born on Aug. 28, 1920, to Herman and Lydia Neuenschwander Lehman in Adams County. She married Harry Wulliman on Feb. 4, 1941.

Appointments by city council wrap up 2014

    It was obvious that Tuesday night’s Decatur City Council meeting was the year’s finale, with several year-end matters handled. Among them were a group of reappointments.
    Ron Storey, Rex Hinsky and Max Miller were given new one-year terms on the city’s redevelopment commission by Mayor John Schultz. North Adams board member Ben Faurote represents that board on the commission, but is a non-voting member.
    Dave Haggard was given a new four-year term on the Board of Zoning Appeals, by the mayor.
