Leo, Adams Central dominate ACAC matches

    MONROE—The returning champion Lady Jets hosted this season’s ACAC tournament on Friday and Saturday along with South Adams, Leo, and Bluffton.
    With the completion of the regular season ACAC schedule, Leo already earned the team championship with a perfect 3-0 mark, while the Lady Jets took second at 2-1, Bluffton third at 1-2, and the Starfires finishing last at 0-3.

Squaws take 2nd at NHC despite seven first places

    NEW HAVEN—Seven first place finishes, four conference and four school records, four blue ribbons for sprinter Alexis Harvey and three for teammate Holly Hankenson propelled the Bellmont Squaws to 131.5 points in the annual NHC girls track meet at the Patrick D. Monaghan Track and Field facility at New Haven High School Friday night.

Lois A. Fegley

    Lois A. Fegley, 93, of rural Van Wert County, passed away Thursday, May 2, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
    Lois was born January 1, 1920, in Craigville, Ind., to the late Clarence R. and Anna E. (Gahman) Abbott.
    She married Chester Lloyd Fegley on May 11, 1941; he preceded her in death on May 7, 2003.

Berniece Lehmann

    Berniece Lehmann, 96, of Berne, died Wednesday at Swiss Village.
    Among survivors are four daughters, Shirley (Ed) Prentiss and Karen (Roy) Lehman, both of Berne; Wanda (Paul) Smith of Columbus Grove, Ohio; and Arlene (Beth) Lehmann of Goshen; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
    Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Sunday at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday at First Mennonite Church.

Irena I. Sprunger

    Irena I. Sprunger, 94, Berne, died Thursday.
    Arrangements are pending at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home.

Monroe still battles illegal dumping

    Illegal dumping in the town of Monroe's refuse collection area on S. Van Buren St. has led to the town council potentially taking large steps towards finding the culprits.
    President Al Lehman told council members Thursday that the refuse area, which is supposed to be used as a compost site, has once again become the dumping ground for everything from garbage to building materials.

NA and AC return to state tests – Expect to complete testing next week

    Adams County school districts, as well as those across several states, are rescheduling and retaking tests that were interrupted Monday and Tuesday.
    Thousands of students in Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota and Oklahoma have been kicked offline while taking tests in recent weeks, postponing the testing schools planned for months and raising concerns about whether the glitches will affect scores, The Associated Press reported.

Prayer Day observance held by local pastors

    Dozens of Decatur residents devoted the middle of their day to prayer by the Peace Monument on Thursday, in keeping with the National Day of Prayer.
    The noontime observance was held by the Decatur Ministerial Association.
    Dr. Robert Brink of Decatur Church of God opened the service by explaining the need for prayer in everyone's life.

Neuman, Chargers hold Braves to three hits in loss, 9-1

    Coming off an emotional win against Heritage on Wednesday night, the Braves turned their attention to the visiting Carroll Chargers at home on Thursday but a seven-run sixth inning spelled doom for Bellmont in a 9-1 loss.
    Through five innings, Jordan Hilyard was throwing a gem of a baseball game allowing seven hits scattered around holding the Chargers to just two runs and Bellmont trailed by just a run at 2-1.
