The Wrenway Park Wiffleball Warehouse has announced rural Wren resident Darryl “DD” Strickler has been given the honor of throwing out the first pitch of this year’s wiffleball tournament, scheduled to begin with opening ceremonies at 5:45 p.m. Friday.
Bellmont grad Brian Hakes played a major role as the Fort Wayne Johns Jackers captured their second consecutive National Amateur Baseball Federation (NABF) Regional championship (all-ages division) over the past weekend.
Brenda L. Frisch, 62, passed away Aug. 8, 2014, after a 27-year battle with Crohns disease.
Born in Decatur, Brenda was a district manager with Fort Wayne Newspapers.
She enjoyed sewing for her family, making blankets for the needy and loved spending time with her grandkids.
Dorothy C. Goelz, 86, Hoagland, passed away Aug. 9, 2014, in the Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
She was born April 21, 1928, in Allen County, the daughter of the late Carl “Charles” Knipstein and the late Anna (Molthan) Knipstein.
She married Herbert M. Goelz on Nov. 4, 1951, in St. John Lutheran Church-Flatrock.
Dorothy was a homemaker and a member of St. John Lutheran Church-Flatrock and the Ladies Aid of the church.
John M. Zuber, 62, Decatur, passed away Aug. 9, 2014, in Decatur.
He was born Dec. 29, 1951, in Fort Wayne, the son of the late James Zuber and Florine (Stoeckly) Zuber. He married Sandy Peveler June 10, 2001, in Brown County.
John was a member of New Beginnings Family Center in Decatur.
He was employed for 43 years with American Electric Power as a serviceman.
Dr. Hyung Soo Lee
Dr. Hyung Soo "Terry" Lee, 74, a surgeon in Decatur for almost 40 years, passed away Aug. 7, 2014, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 21, 1940, to the late Chang Ho Lee and Bok Soon (Hong) Lee.
He was married to Antoinette (Kim) Lee in June 1971 in New York City. The ceremony was presided by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale. She survives in Decatur.
Anna Marie Spangler, 77, rural Decatur, died Thursday Aug. 7, 2014 at her residence.
Anna was born Aug. 1, 1937 in Adams County to the late Perry A. and Bessie G. (Irwin) Everett.
She married Paul E. Spangler on Oct. 10, 1953.
Anna was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and the Rosary Society.
She was also a member of the Tiger Lillies Ladies Club, Harley Owner Group, Gold Wing Road Riders Association and a life member of the NRA.
A rural Adams County teenager was arrested Friday after a brief investigation into weapons violations. Zachary T. Fiechter, 18, was jailed on a preliminary felony charge of dangerous control of a firearm, according to the Adams County Sheriff’s Department.
Police did not elaborate on why the charge was brought against Fiechter or how the investigation started.
