SA adds 30 minutes to school days for remainder of year

    South Adams Schools will make up days missed this past winter due to severe weather by adding 15 minutes to the school day in the morning and another 15 minutes at the end of the day for the remainder of the year, the South Adams Board of Education determined at a special meeting Tuesday night.

    In like a lion, out like a lamb may only be semi-accurate for March 2014. Coming on the heels of the coldest, snowiest winter in recent memory, most area residents were looking for a big boost into spring. Mother Nature, it seems, had other plans.

Thomas F. Eichhorn

April 1, 2014

    Thomas F. Eichhorn Jr., 62, Fort Wayne, passed away at 2:28 a.m. Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. His death was unexpected and followed a brief illness.
    Tom was born Monday, Dec. 17, 1951, in Decatur, the son of the late Thomas F. and Leota Madge (Waldron) Eichhorn Jr.  
    He was a member of the Moose Lodge 1311 and the Eagles Lodge 2653, both in Decatur. Tom was a graduate of Bellmont High School and attended ITT, studying automotive mechanics.

Richard F. Linn

    Richard F. Linn, 89, Decatur, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
    He was born Aug. 5, 1924, in Decatur, son of  the late Joseph S. and Mildred Cleo (Roop) Linn.
    He married Colleen Miller Aug. 1, 1947.

    Adams County Commission Chairman Doug Bauman, acting as a member of the county’s Judicial Needs Committee, informed his fellow commissioners Monday  the six-member committee had met several times over the past two and a half months to nail down the location of the planned jail/superior court building.

It was one small step for man, one giant leap for Gideon Hower, 3, of Monroe, as he begins his ascent of the rock climb at Legion Park Monday afternoon. The city's parks were a buzz of activity as sunshine and temperatures which reached 64 degrees made for a pleasant day outdoors.

Spring break ended abruptly for members of the Bellmont track team Monday as it was back to training in a big way. The student-athletes were forced to scale the large hill — used for sledding in the winter — as part of their conditioning.

    Nola M. Ellenberger, 86, Geneva, passed away at 1:40 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Swiss Village in Berne. 
    She was born Friday, Feb. 03, 1928, in Jefferson Township, Adams County to the late Eugene Clinton and Iva May (Irwin) Charleston. 
    She married the late Kenneth W Ellenberger Sunday, May 05, 1946, in Geneva. 
    Nola was a homemaker and a charter member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxillary in Geneva. She loved flowers.  

Lonnie D. Fravel Sr.

    Lonnie D Fravel Sr., 63, Geneva, passed away at 12:32 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur. 
    He was born Thursday, Dec. 14, 1950, in Decatur to Charles Fravel of Geneva and the late Rosella Fravel.
    Lonnie was a 1969 graduate of Geneva High School.  He was a carpenter who ran a remodeling and construction business in Geneva.
