Joyce V. Smitley, 83, Geneva, died Sunday, Nov. 02, 2014.
Among survivors are his wife, Rose Ann Smitley of Geneva; one son, Stanley (Cathy) Smitley of Monroe; three daughters, Dianna Morningstar of Berne; Katrina Smitley of Clearwater, Fla.; and Tammy (Dean) Hummel of Berne; one brother, Darrol (Phyllis) Smitley of Geneva; one sister, Margie Andrews of Angola; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Russell D. Stonesifer, 94, of Albuquerque, NM, formerly of Decatur, died on Saturday. Arrangements are pending at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy F.H.
Kathryn L. Yager, 89, Decatur, passed away at 7:20 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, at Adams Woodcrest Retirement Community.
She was born in Decatur Sunday, Aug. 16, 1925, to the late Ralph and Agnes (Sellemeyer) Yager.
Kathryn was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Decatur and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association.
Once the Miller property is sold to Adams County as a site for the new county jail, should commissioners consider annexing a portion of the land into the city of Decatur once it is purchased?
That subject was broached by Adams County Attorney Mark Burry Monday afternoon at the weekly meeting of the Adams County Commissioners. He offered narratives which were advantageous to both the county and the city.
Voting began at 6 a.m. today on what has been predicted to be a light day of polling in Adams County and across the nation. Above, two area residents cast their votes at the North Adams Community Schools’ administration building.

The Adams County Republican Party will offer rides to the polls Tuesday for all who need assistance. Call Adams County GOP chairman Bill Borne at 565-3460 at leave a message with your name, address, polling place and any other requirements or needs you may have. Borne will arrange the route and call you back with a time for you to be picked up after all arrangements have been made.
If demand for a ride to the polls is high, other party members will assist to assure all get their opportunity to vote.
Dorothy J. Faurote, 86, Decatur, passed away Nov. 1, 2014, at her son’s residence in Fort Wayne. She was born in Allen County June 26, 1928, to the late Ralph J. and Helen B. (Meese) Bower. On Jan. 15, 1949, she married Francis H. “Fritz” Faurote; he died on Dec. 14, 1993.
She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and its Rosary Society. Dorothy worked for Ferris Bower Jewelry for more than 25 years and ran a childcare business for 31 years.
