A 25-year-old construction worker from Fort Wayne died Wednesday at Adams Memorial Hospital a short time after being hit while on the job by the wheels of a tractor-trailer truck at a highway project at S. 13th St. and Winchester St.
City police, who investigated the tragedy, said Ryan D. Zimmerman was pronounced dead at the hospital after being rushed there from the scene by Adams County Emergency Medical Service. EMS personnel performed cardio-pulmonary resuscitation on him during the ambulance trip.
Tighter state requirements governing school nutrition guidelines have forced North Adams Community Schools to boost lunch prices for the 2011-2012 school year.
Erin Ripley, food service director for the school district, addressed the changes — some of which are already in place, and others which are expected to be imposed — during Tuesday evening's meeting of the North Adams school board.
Information provided for the obituary of Francis J. Geels, 86, of Decatur, who died on Monday, omitted the name of a deceased brother: George Frederick "Fred" Geels.
M. Lucille Zuercher, 88, of Berne, died Tuesday in Adams Memorial Hospital.

One lone applicant for a soon-to-be-vacant seat on the North Adams school board will be interviewed on April 26 by the four remaining board members.
With the term of sitting board member Juan Gutierrez to expire on June 30, the board earlier had announced it was accepting applications from persons interested in filling that pending vacancy. The deadline for submissions was last Friday.
South Adams Schools board member and random drug testing policy committee chairman Steve Dobler recommended at Tuesday's school board meeting that the random drug testing policy be enforced at the beginning of the 2011-12 school year.
"I think it will be a good thing for our students," he said.
NEW HAVEN—Bellmont was a team that earned seven first place finishes (more than any other school), posted 24 season best efforts, and shattered an individual school record that had stood for 10 years...but still finished third in a Northeast Hoosier Conference triangular girls track meet at New Haven Tuesday night.
Bellmont won four sets by 6-0 scores and two more by 6-1 counts enroute to handing Wayne a 5-0 defeat in varsity tennis at the BHS courts Monday night.
The win was the second straight of the year for Bellmont while the match was the first of the season for Wayne.
Larry W. Davis Sr., 66, of Decatur, died at 12:25 a.m. Monday in Adams Memorial Hospital.
He was born to Ivan L. Davis Sr. and Waneta I. McKean Davis. His father is deceased; his mother lives in Decatur.
Larry had been employed by General Electric Corp., with 32 years of service, and had also worked parttime at Decatur Cemetery and Adams Memorial Hospital.
Francis J. Geels, 86, of Decatur, passed away at 2:25 p.m. on Monday, April 11, 2011, at his residence.
He was born on March 1, 1925, in Adams County to John and Dorothy (Steigmeyer) Geels.
He married Nonna C. Kline on April 30, 1947; she passed away on April 3, 2010.
