Orville H. Kline

    Orville H. Kline, 87, of New Haven, passed away at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2011, at The Lamplight Inn in Fort Wayne.
    He was born on July 15, 1923, in Allen County to Henry and Mary (Girardot) Kline.
    He was married to Ruth I. Myers; she passed away on January 21, 1981.

    Ronette E. Roe, 54, of Decatur, died Saturday in Adams Memorial Hospital.
    She was born to Ronald D. and Barbara McBride Roe. Her father is deceased; her mother lives in Decatur.
    She was a 1976 graduate of Adams Central High School and attended Decatur Church of God.

    Jack E. Ross, 73, of Decatur, passed away at 5:55 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2011, at Englewood Health and Rehabilitation in Fort Wayne.
    He was born on October 18, 1936, in Sedalia, Missouri, to Zeke and Nadine (Wear) Ross.
    He married Kay Grubb on June 27, 1959.

Stutzman: stop wild spending

    Using two charts to illustrate his points about the federal budget, U.S. Rep. Marlin Stutzman told some 110 people at Thursday's Republican Lincoln Day dinner in Decatur that the GOP plan keeps the budget under control, but the Democratic plan will double the national debt to $28 trillion.

    The St. Marys River apparently crested at approximately 21 feet in Decatur this morning, and with at least 24 hours of dry weather forecast, this week's steady rise may ease.
    The possibility of more rain exists Saturday night and Sunday, though, but the good news is that the National Weather Service's (NWS) extended outlook sees no precipitation for this areaa the first half of next week.

BHS finds one coach, loses another

    While it appears Bellmont High School may be on the verge of hiring a new football coach to replace the recently resigned Rick Burkhalter, it was learned Thursday that another major sport coach has resigned.
    Bellmont girls varsity basketball coach Tory Fuelling has confirmed he has submitted his resignation as coach to athletic director Dale Manis noting "I've been doing this (coaching girls basketball) for 11 years, seven as an assistant and four as head coach. It's time now to take a look at doing something else."

Rain prompts high school sporting events to be rescheduled

    Rain, rain go away seems to be the new mantra for area athletic directors as they scramble to reschedule events postponed due to recent rainy weather.
    Bellmont has had to alter its schedule somewhat this week to accommodate NHC contests and will now host Columbia City on Friday instead of South Adams at 5 p.m. A new date for the BHS-SA game has not yet been determined.

Pence draws large, mannered turnout

    Unlike many of his congressional colleagues who have been greeted rudely by constituents in the wake of recent GOP-proposed spending cuts and suggested revisions to Medicare, Indiana Rep. Mike Pence on Wednesday spoke for more than an hour with a well-mannered crowd of some 100 area residents gathered at Decatur's Riverside Center.
    Pence, R-6th, opened with some brief introductory comments about recent efforts in the Republican-controlled House to curb federal spending before opening the floor to questions.
